DIGITECH
Term 3 Digital Technologies Update
Students across all year levels have had a fantastic term in DigiTech, building problem-solving skills, mastering new tools, and exploring exciting hands-on projects.
- Foundation: Our youngest coders have been introduced to robotics using Bee-Bots. They’ve explored simple algorithms, learning how sequence and directions matter when giving instructions to move their robots through challenges.
- Levels 1 & 2: Students have put the STEM Design Cycle into action. Working with LEGO, they’ve brainstormed, planned, built prototypes, tested their ideas, and refined their creations to solve design challenges.
- Levels 3 & 4: Turning Microsoft PowerPoint into an interactive design tool, students have been developing decision-tree apps. By mapping out everyday choices—like planning a holiday—they are in the process of programming branching choices to guide users to customised outcomes.
- Levels 5 & 6: Diving into coding on Scratch, students are authoring and animating short stories. Using block-based code, they have animated characters, set up dynamic scene transitions, and are bringing their digital narratives to life.

MATHS SPECIALIST
FOUNDATION – LEVEL 2
This term, our junior students continued to learn to problem-solve and think critically and creatively whilst engaging in challenging Mathematics tasks. The Foundation students have been super busy developing their ability to count and draw a variety of simple and more challenging numbers. The students in Grade 1 have worked incredibly hard, completing a range of tasks focused on two-digit numbers and deepening their understanding of place value. The students in Grade 2 have completed a range of activities focusing on multiplicative thinking. This has allowed the students to develop their ability to work with various types of numbers, understand number groups, solve proportional problems, and communicate ideas. Please feel free to stop by the Maths room and check out our wonderful Maths display. It has been put together by the students for the students. There are also a range of Maths activities to take home and complete with your children.
LEVELS 3-6
Our Level 3-6 students have engaged in a unit of work loosely based on the game Prime Climb. Prime Climb is a perfect game for ages 10+ (or 8+ with adult guidance) to explore mathematical structure in multiplication, division, and prime numbers. Our focus this term was on Multiplicative Thinking across Levels 3-6, with exploration of prime numbers in the middle school, leading into prime factorisation in Levels 5 and 6. Students have been challenged to look beyond simply finding an answer and instead investigate the mathematical relationships and structures that underpin numbers. Through rich problem-solving tasks, students have explored factors and multiples, identified patterns, investigated prime and composite numbers, and developed strategies for breaking numbers apart and rebuilding them in different ways.
As students progressed through the unit, they were encouraged to explain their thinking, justify their strategies and look for more than one possible solution. This has provided opportunities for students to develop their mathematical reasoning and fluency while strengthening their understanding of how numbers are connected through multiplication and division. Most importantly, students have been encouraged to see mathematics as something to be explored, questioned and investigated, rather than simply a set of rules to follow.

Newsletter – Music
It has been a busy term! Learning a new routine with a new teacher can be a difficult challenge, but the Rangeview students have been absolute legends and it's been a joy to get to know them all.
Foundation
Foundation students have been working hard in their lessons, learning the expectations and routines of a new teacher. They have been working hard to develop safe dance practices, play singing games and learn new songs. Through these songs and games Foundation students are developing their understanding of concepts of music, such as high/low, slow/fast, soft/loud and sound/vs, as well as beat, rhythm and melody.
Students have also discovered why music is important to people, why using their bodies safely is important and different contexts where they may have heard songs.
Grade 1/2
Grades 1 & 2 students have been learning through play. Students have learned a series of songs through games. Once these songs are known students have begun the process of learning about the rhythmic & melodic notation of these songs, developing a deep understanding of these concepts. Students have 'played' so hard; they didn't even realise they were learning! If you would like to see an example of one of these games, please ask your child to play 'Bluebells' with you. It'll be stuck in your head for the rest of the day!
Grades 3/4
Grade 3/4 students have been learning about a variety of concepts this term, with students beginning the term by learning about different music contexts and ideas. Students then began their main unit by learning a song called 'Fiddle Diddle Dee'. By using the Orff method, students have learnt the song in multiple exposures and different instruments. They then figured out how to play the song on xylophones and learnt to play multiple parts to accompany the class band. By putting these together students have worked towards creating class bands, with improvising sections. This will lead into their recorder composition next term.
Grades 5/6
Grade 5/6 students have worked hard this term! They began the term by learning about different musical contexts, including a unit of work on Archie Roach's Took the Children Away and its impact. Students showed great empathy, insight and understanding as we explored the impact of the Stolen Generation and this song on Australia as a whole. We then began looking at the nursery rhyme Peas Porridge, creating many different ositnatos, body percussion patterns and class bands performing up to 5 different parts in the same song. Students are working towards composing their own songs in small bands next term.
I'm looking forward to a huge Term 4 and getting to know more and more of the community!

Term 3 PE & Sport News
As always, it has been another very busy Term 3 in PE and Sport at Rangeview! From Cross Country and Athletics to Hoop Time, Inter-school Sport and our regular PE program, there has been plenty happening throughout the term.
State Cross Country
We started the term at Yarra Glen, where Rayani represented Rangeview at the State Cross Country Championships. Rayani produced an outstanding run to finish 2nd in Victoria, securing her place at the National Championships for the second consecutive year! This is a phenomenal achievement and we wish Rayani the very best of luck as she represents Team Vic at Nationals!
Winter Inter-school Sport Finals
Congratulations to all our students who competed at the Whitehorse Division and Eastern Metropolitan Regional Finals this term. We had some very impressive results:
- Boys Teeball – Division Champions and 3rd at Regionals
- Girls Teeball – Division Champions and 5th at Regionals
- Boys/Mixed Netball – Division Champions and Regional Runners-Up
- Girls Soccer – Division Runners-Up
- Girls AFL – 3rd Place at Division
It was fantastic to see so many Rangeview teams progressing through to the higher levels of competition and representing our school with great pride.
Hoop Time
This term we also had our Level 1/2 and Level 5/6 Hoop Time days. Both days were a fantastic success, with Team Rangeview showcasing our school values, having plenty of fun and representing the school with great pride. Thanks to all the parents who supported these events!
There is also plenty more basketball to come, with our Senior All Star Boys, Senior All Star Girls, Future Star Boys and Future Star Girls all progressing to the Regional Finals in Term 4! We wish all four teams the best of luck.
Nunawading District Athletics
We recently competed at the Nunawading District Athletics Carnival, with 65 students representing Team Rangeview across a wide range of track and field events.
It was another fantastic day for Rangeview, with our team finishing Runners-Up overall, as well as Runners-Up in the Aggregate Shield.
Congratulations to the 24 students who have progressed to the Division Athletics Finals in Term 4. Good luck!
Summer Inter-school Sport
Last week we completed our final day of Nunawading Summer Inter-school Sport, with our 220 Level 5/6 students representing Rangeview across Basketball, Cricket, Volleyball, Downball and Tennis.
Across our 26 teams, it was great to see the skill, enthusiasm and sportsmanship shown by our students throughout the competition. Rangeview had teams competing in an incredible 7 of the 8 District Grand Finals for 2026!
We finished the competition with three District Championships:
Boys Cricket – District Champions – our first Boys Cricket title since 2014!
Girls Volleyball – District Champions
Girls Tennis – District Champions
All three teams will now progress to the Whitehorse Division Finals. We wish them the best of luck at the next stage!
Level 4 Sports Extension
Our Level 4 Sports Extension Program has been in full swing throughout Term 3. Our group has had the opportunity to visit F45 Mitcham, MVC Boxing and Heatherdale Tennis Club, as well as participate in several incursions at school.
It has been great working with such an enthusiastic group of students who have been willing to have a go, challenge themselves and experience a range of different sports and activities.
PE Lessons
There has also been plenty happening during our regular PE sessions this term.
Our Level 3–6 students have been focusing on Netball, developing their skills and understanding of the game. It has been fantastic to see their progression throughout the term.
Our Level 5/6 students took this one step further by participating in an eight-round SEPEP tournament. Students took responsibility for coaching, training, umpiring and scoring as they worked together to run a complete competition. It was a great opportunity for students to develop not only their Netball skills, but also their teamwork, leadership and understanding of different roles within sport.
Our junior students have continued to build their Fundamental Motor Skills through a wide range of games and activities, with a focus on developing confidence, coordination and enjoyment of physical activity.

Being selected to represent Victoria is an incredible achievement and something these students should be extremely proud of. We wish them all the very best as they compete on the national stage!

What a Term!
It has certainly been another action-packed term for PE and Sport at Rangeview. A huge congratulations to all our students who have represented the school this term, whether at District, Division, Regional or State level.
Most importantly, it has been fantastic to see so many students getting involved, having fun, supporting their teammates and representing Team Rangeview with pride.
We look forward to another exciting term of PE and Sport in Term 4!

TERM THREE IN THE ART ROOM.
Once again it has been a busy term in the art room. I can’t believe that we have reached the end of term. Winter is behind us and we look forward to some glorious spring days.
This term has been almost solely dedicated to developing art work in response to the Theme of ‘Seasons’. Each level studied the art work of various German artists, (a collaboration between the Art and German disciplines) and created art work in the style of the particular artist studied.

Once again, I was overwhelmed by the ability of our students and was so proud of the work they created.

Deutsch für die Zukunft
(German for the Future)
German in Foundation – Level 3
In Terms 3 & 4, students in Foundation to Level 3 will be learning German through a range of fun and engaging topics.
Foundation – Erste Schritte (First Steps)
This term marked the beginning of our Foundation students’ German learning journey. Students have been introduced to the basics of the German language, learning how to say their name, count, identify colours and name the days of the week. They will also explore German culture and traditions through our Oktoberfest and Christmas celebrations. Students will develop their German through engaging songs, games, stories and hands-on activities, building confidence as they take their first steps in German.
Levels 1 & 2 – Deutsch mit Socke (German with Socke)
Students have been introduced to Socke, a fun and engaging sock puppet who helps young learners develop their German language skills through stories, songs and simple conversations. As part of this topic, students created their own Socke, sock puppet, which they will use during German lessons as they practise their language skills.
Level 3 – Wunderbar!
Level 3 students have begun working with Wunderbar!, a popular three-volume German language program designed for children aged 8–11 years (levels A1 to A2.1). The program introduces German in a playful and engaging way and follows the adventures of twin brothers Max and Paul as they experience a variety of everyday situations. Through stories, games, songs and interactive activities, students will continue to develop their German vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
LEVEL 6 AGTV ACHIEVEMENT CERTIFICATES
At the end of Term 2, all Level 6 students were presented with an AGTV (Association of German Teachers of Victoria) Level 6 Achievement Certificate during their final German lesson at Rangeview Primary School.
The certificates recognise and celebrate the German language skills students have developed throughout their primary school years. As stated on the certificate, these foundational skills are transferable to learning any language at secondary school and provide students with a strong basis for future language learning.
To mark this special milestone, each student received a gift bag containing a selection of German-themed stationery items.
We congratulate our Level 6 students on their achievements and wish them “Alles Gute für die Zukunft” (all the best for the future) as they continue their language-learning journey.
STATE FINAL GERMAN POETRY COMPETITION
The AGTV German Poetry Competition has been running for 33 years and provides a wonderful opportunity for students to enhance their German language skills, build confidence, and connect with other German learners from across Victoria.
On Saturday 12 September, five talented Rangeview students represented our school at the AGTV State Final German Poetry Competition, held at the Austrian Club in Heidelberg West. The students competed in three categories: Year 5 DaF (German as a Foreign Language) – Lara G (5G) and Niketh (5J); Year 6 DaF – Luke (6T) and Myra (6V); and Year 5 Open – Annika (6J).
Each student confidently recited their selected German poem to two judges and a small audience. While waiting for the results, students enjoyed a meal and drink, tested their knowledge of Austria in a quiz and had fun playing table soccer.
We are incredibly proud that all five Rangeview students received a place in the State Final, with prizes awarded to the top six students in each category:

🏅Niketh – 5th place, Year 5 DaF

As the Year 6 winner, Myra was presented with the University of Melbourne Shield and was invited to perform her poem once again in front of the entire audience. This is a particularly wonderful achievement as Rangeview has now won first place in the Year 6 category for three consecutive years!
Frau Schon and Frau Lindner were delighted to attend the State Final and support our students throughout the day. They are both extremely proud of their wonderful performances, confidence and dedication.
A very special Danke schön to Frau Schon for her fabulous coaching, encouragement and support of our poetry students. It was a fantastic day and a wonderful celebration of our students’ achievements in German!
RANGEVIEW OKTOBERFEST
A reminder to all our Rangeview families that our Whole-School Oktoberfest is coming up on Thursday 29 October! We are looking forward to celebrating German language and culture with our students through music, games, activities and, of course, some delicious German treats!

- Germany boasts the largest bread diversity in the world, with the Central Association of the German Bakery Trade officially registering over 3,200 distinct types of bread.
- Some of the cars you see on Australian roads, such as BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, Volkswagens, Audis and Porsches, were designed and built in Germany. Germany is also where the world's first car was invented more than 140 years ago. Today, German cars are famous around the world for their quality, engineering and speed!
- Germany has more than 20,000 castles and castle ruins. Its most famous castle, Neuschwanstein Castle, inspired Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle because it looks like something from a fairy tale!

AUSLAN
Level 4, 5 and 6 students began their Auslan learning journey this term, showing resilience and excitement for learning a new language. Students have dived right into learning and using Auslan in everyday situations and conversations. We have learnt and used the alphabet and numbers, giving students a foundation for signing and finger spelling anything they do not know the signs for. Students were then able to use that knowledge to sign the days of the week and months of the year, including signing their birth dates and the "Happy Birthday" song. We went on to learn the signs for various feelings, including 'happy', 'sad', 'silly' and 'tired'. From there, students have learnt about questions and greetings, and how to use the previous topics to form questions and answers with each other in Auslan. The end of the term has brought more common vocabulary topics like colours, farm animals and pets, and descriptive language for animals. This vocabulary, along with the understanding of the difference in sentence and question structure in Auslan, will be used for an exciting creative project at the beginning of next term.
Level 4, 5 and 6 students should be very proud of how far they have come in such a short amount of time. The stretches of conversation conducted entirely in Auslan are improving and slowly getting longer. Students are enjoying participating in simple games and action songs to practise their skills and are becoming more confident in keeping their voices off and using their hands to communicate.
