What a fantastic Term 3 we have had at Rangeview! 

We celebrated NAIDOC Week in Week 1 and the whole school took part in musical incursions with Scott Darlow, our staff also participated in another session of Indigenous Perspectives PD with Australian's Together First Nations. We worked on our Cyber Safety in Week 2 and again the whole school participated in incursions with the Cyber Safety Project team. AFL clinics began in PE classes and the Level 4 sports extension program commenced.  Level 1 celebrated 101 Days of School, RAFT ran the Board Games Day and Lego Masters event, Level 1 & 2 went to the Sealife Excursion, Foundation celebrated 100 Days of School, students competed in Division TBall & Soccer & AFL & Netball as well as District Athletics and Junior & Senior Hoop Time, P&F ran our Kids Disco, our Father's Day Stall and the Parents Night, RAFT ran our Lego Masters Event and the Board Games Day, we offered a Cybersafe Parents Webinar, and Level 5 & 6 students attended City Walk, Level 3 & 4 students attended Camp, select students participated in the German Poetry Competition, Level 5 & 6 students had the Smoothie Bar Incursion, Foundation students were delighted by the Little Wombats Incursion. We had the annual Rangeview Book Fair and Book Parade Day, Level 1 & 2 went to Swimming Lessons and Level 5/6 had Summer Interschool Sports, Level 4 attended Melbourne Museum, Level 6 had the Aspire Leadership Incursion, and today we all celebrate Billycart and Footy Colours Day!

Rangeview Oktoberfest Fair

On Sunday the 25th October our fabulous P&F Committee will be running the Rangeview Oktoberfest Fair! 

This event only occurs once every two years and is again going to be stupendous. There will be carnival rides, food trucks - including our own Rangeview families Indian food - side shows, a beer tent and our incredible Level 5 & 6 Market Stalls.

NAPLAN

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority has now published the state-wide NAPLAN data results – and Victorian schools have achieved outstanding results. On 5 key metrics, Victorian schools have done exceptionally well. NAPLAN is a national assessment which is completed by all students in schooling in Australia - Levels 3, 5, 7 and 9. 

Here at Rangeview our NAPLAN results for our Grade 3 and our Grade 5 students was extraordinary and is a testament to our excellent and dedicated teachers (at every level), and our supportive families who value and embrace education and engagement for our students. 

The below tables show the percentage of students scoring in the Exceeding and Strong results range.

Similar Schools: Schools matched by gender, Indigeneity, language background other than English status, parental occupation, parental education, and remoteness.

We are incredibly proud of our wonderful students in achieving these remarkable results. 

Attitudes to School Survey

Last term our Level 4, 5 and 6 students participated in the Department of education Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS). 

All government schools must participate in AtoSS. The survey provides data that helps the department understand student perspectives of their school and to improve the schooling experience. Data collected includes how students feel in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.

Highest scoring areas were;

• Attitudes to Attendance 81%
• Advocate at School 81%
• School Stage Transitions 82%
• Sense of Inclusion 85%
• High Expectations for Success 90%

Lowest scoring areas overall were;

• Motivation and Interest 61%
• Respect for Diversity 64%
• Student Voice and Agency 56%
• Teacher Concern 58%

Although there was much to celebrate in our student feedback, there are also areas for improvement. We are looking at this data with staff and have already begun to create focus groups of students to dig deeper into what they are reporting and come up with creative ways to address some of their concerns. 

Inner East Principal Forum

On Tuesday 18th August, Kate McLeod, Tania Balderston and I attended the Inner East Principal Forum in Doncaster. Karen Money our Regional Director provided an update on initiatives across all Government schools state wide and gave access to some State and Regional NAPLAN data and AtoSS Data (see below), and our Executive Director Jeremy Beard outlined changes to technology in education across the recent years. The main sessions then focused on exploring the VTLM 2.0 and schools intentional use of digital devices. 

Level 3 & 4 Camp

This term our Level 3 and Level 4 students participated in outdoor adventure camps. Level 3 to ADANAC and Level 4 to Forest Edge. Together with their teaching teams, members of leadership and our wonderful parent volunteers, the students had the opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor activities and challenges. We thank the middle school teams for their work in organising and running these excellent camps. 

Book Parade Day

On Thursday 20th Rangeview again celebrated a fantastic Book Parade Day with students in all levels stepping up the fabulous costumes and props. We celebrated the Children's Book of the Year Awards with the winner of the Younger Readers Book of the Year going to ‘Inked’ by Karen Wasson and the Early Childhood category going to ‘The Emperor’s Egg’ by Rae Tan. 

A huge congratulations to Deirdree Geilings and Krista Morris for their spectacular running of the Book Parade. We were so proud of all of the costumes shown by our staff and students alike. 

Facilities Update

Mural

The new school mural is almost complete. Through whole school feedback and extensive communication we determined that the mural should feature the three school values - Respect, Resilience and Kindness - and the four House Colours. The three birds are Australian natives and are all are found in our school grounds. They are the Respectful Rosella, the Kind Kookaburra, and the Resilient Rainbow Lorikeet. We commissioned a graffiti mural artist - Resio - to create this work for us over the past two weekends. Resio worked some years ago with another artist - Zac Bunston - to create the existing murals on the Library wall and Specialist Hub. 

We are now working with a graphic design company to create the art work for the short wall facing the main doors - which will feature the Aboriginal Art we have had made for the school, and the phrase 'This is our place. We belong.' 

Junior Toilets

We are thrilled to see that the new Junior Toilets upgrade has commenced. The capitol works grant funding will see a complete replacement of the Junior Toilets and is expected to be complete before Christmas. Fencing went up on Wednesday this week and the demolition will be carried out over the holiday break. Our Junior students will be using the Gym toilets and the Senior toilets for the duration of the works. Whilst we appreciate that there will be a period of disruption, we are so pleased to have this much needed project begin. 

Curriculum Days Term 4

Rangeview will be holding two pupil free Curriculum Days in Term 4. The first is Monday 2nd November - this is preceding the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday, and the second is Friday 18th December. Our staff will be utilising their Professional Practice Day and preparing for the new school year in 2027. 

Our Before and After School Care provider TheirCare will be open for any families that require care on either of these days.
