Food Studies

Food Studies is a life skills subject that equips students to make informed and appropriate choices regarding food, both now and in the future. Making these informed choices requires an explicit understanding of nutritional principles and guides, and this is embedded throughout the course. It is a practical and theoretical subject that teaches students the importance of health, safety and hygiene practices, healthy eating, cooking skills and food science. The students apply their knowledge and skills in small projects, class discussion, self-assessment and weekly practical sessions. They are required to display the ability to follow a recipe and develop food preparation skills with independence and organisation.
