Assistant Principal

Laura Forster - Year 11 & 12

Thank you to parents and caregivers for your continued support in ensuring that our senior students attend school in their full winter uniform and arrive to the college on time. Please also remind your teenagers that mobile phones and smart watches are not permitted at school and need to be kept in student lockers for the day. In the past we have seen significant issues arise when students break these rules and then have to have their devises confiscated for the day. Mobile phones disrupt learning and open the flood gates for possible breach of rules in classroom assessments. Under no circumstances are mobile phones permitted in classrooms. Strict VCAA penalties can result to assessment scores if students are in possession of these mobile devises during Course Assessment Tasks (CATS) or final examinations. If you need to urgently contact your child in an emergency, you can call the general office, and we will ensure we pass on the message to your child.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) have outlined the dates and times of the two General Achievement Tests (GAT) on Tuesday 17th June.  All students including those in Vocational Major, (VM) are required to sit section A Literacy (Reading and Writing) and Numeracy from 9.00 -11.15, then only VCE students (not VM) will complete section B – General Knowledge and Skills from 1.15 to 3.00 pm. Further information to students along with an opportunity to become acquainted with the types of questions, have been provided to all students at last Thursday assembly. It is essential that all students apply themselves fully to achieving their very best. Students receive a Literacy and Numeracy grade as part of their VCE completion certificates at the end of the year. Many employers seek this information as part of job applications as an indicator of Literacy and Numeracy standards of any prospective employees. For students who are seeking an ATAR, the GAT provides a baseline level of achievement and can be used to verify final grades in some circumstances.

All VCE year 11 students will be sitting semester one examinations in the coming fortnight. These provide a strong indication of the content knowledge and skill acquisition as well as an indication of progress in each area of study.  Adequate preparation through effective revision is essential to achieving the best results possible and is valuable in continuing to develop thorough and effective preparation skills required in year 12. All year 11 students, during several of their assembly sessions have had workshops provided through Elevate Education to build effective study routines and revision practices.  We wish all students the very best of luck during these unit one exams.

Members of the senior school team and I are happy to assist with any inquiries you may have about your child’s progress or well-being in senior school.
