Year 10 Food Technology – “Food for Special Occasions” Unit

Year 10 Food Technology students have recently completed their unit on “Food for Special Occasions,” where they demonstrated their creativity and practical skills by producing cakes or cupcakes tailored to specific themes.

Practical Application and Teamwork

Working in pairs, students showcased their ability to plan, design, and execute cake decorations within a structured timeframe. They were required to develop a workflow plan, select appropriate equipment and techniques, and apply safe and hygienic work practices throughout the process. The final products reflected their understanding of the significance of food in celebrations and their ability to meet specific catering needs.

Skill Development

Throughout the unit, students honed their skills in food preparation, presentation, and teamwork. They explored various special occasions, including social, cultural, and family events, and examined the elements of small and large-scale catering. This comprehensive approach allowed them to appreciate the role of food in creating memorable experiences.

Celebrating Success

The improvement in students' skills and the high quality of their final products are commendable. Their ability to work collaboratively and apply their learning in a practical setting is a testament to their dedication and the effectiveness of the unit.

We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing how they continue to apply their culinary skills in future projects.
