Back and Louder Than Ever: St Monica’s Guitar-Making Class Returns!

Get ready to plug in and rock out!St Monica’s College Epping has brought back its awesome electric guitar-making class — and this year, it is even bigger, better, and louder!

This special Year 10 subject gives students the amazing chance to build a real electric guitar from scratch. That is right — you will design, shape, wire, and finish your own Telecaster-style guitar. By the end of the semester, you will walk away with something you built yourself — and yes, it will actually work!

Not Your Usual Classroom

Forget boring textbooks — this class is all about hands-on learning. You will use wood, tools, and electronics to bring your own guitar to life. If you like music, design, or just enjoy building things, this course mixes creativity, tech, and rock 'n' roll in a way you have never seen before.

Led by Mr Di Muzio, a passionate and skilled teacher, you will explore everything from shaping the guitar body to installing pickups and understanding how sound is created. You will learn what makes the Telecaster so iconic and how to customise your build to match your own style.

What’s New This Year?

Now in its second year, the course has been turned up a notch! Here is what is new:

  • Fresh challenges to boost your skills

  • More design options to make your guitar unique

  • Better tools and advanced techniques

This means more freedom to experiment and make your guitar truly your own.

Collaboration and Creativity

This course is not just about building a guitar — it is about building together. Students team up to help each other shape bodies, install electronics, and solve tricky problems. Whether it is learning how to solder or sanding the perfect curve, everyone supports one another along the way.

This teamwork builds communication skills, patience, and a sense of shared success. It also makes the classroom feel more like a real workshop where ideas are shared and creativity flows freely.

From the Workshop to Your Bedroom Jam Session

It is not just about the tools and techniques — it is about gaining confidence and discovering what you are capable of. By the end of the course, you will have a one-of-a-kind guitar and a bunch of new skills that go far beyond music.

Whether you are jamming with friends or just playing for yourself, you will know your guitar was built with your own hands — and that is something to be proud of.

Hear From the Students

Former student Matthew Schembri says,

“I have always loved music, and the idea of building my own guitar is incredible. It has been challenging but so worth it.”

Eliose Hocking adds,

“I have learned patience, problem-solving, and how rewarding it is to make something with your own hands.”

Vaishakh Arun shares,

“The best part is seeing your hard work turn into something real. You get to go at your own pace and make it your own.”

A New Path Forward

This guitar-making class is more than just a cool elective — it is a great example of how St Monica’s supports all kinds of talents and passions. It gives students a space to be creative, try new things, and develop practical skills that are useful in the real world.

You can already see the difference it is making. As students move into the final stages of building their guitars, there is a real sense of pride and excitement. They are not only learning how to make guitars — they are growing in confidence, independence, and creativity.

Rock On, Year 10!

St Monica’s electric guitar-making class is one of a kind. It brings together the art and science of guitar building and helps shape the next generation of makers, musicians, and innovators.
