Reading Fluency

As grownups may be aware from previous newsletter posts, students in the 1/2 Learning Community have been focusing very hard on improving their reading fluency. There are many ways in which we have been working on this, and our most recent strategy has been performing Readers Theatre scripts.

Using scripts helps students to learn about the right reading rate, putting emphasis on different words to create meaning, and changing our voices to reflect the different characters we are portraying.

All of this hard work culminated in 1/2A performing their Readers Theatre script at assembly this week. All of the students had been practicing for two weeks to ensure they got their part just right! When they had finished, you could tell how proud they all were that they had gotten up on stage to do a very brave thing. It was so wonderful to see all our practice come together into a wonderful performance. Well done 1/2A!
