Literacy

Every day, we are improving our phonemic understanding! (Phonemes are the sounds that letters represent. We have been practising saying words slowly to hear the sounds of the words, to then write the word. It has been lots of good fun. Some of the sentences we have written have been: 'The sad pig sat.' or 'The man has the kit.' Our letter formation is also improving every day! We have also been enjoying breaking into literacy game groups.  We have mastered the game of Blah, Blah, Blah! While having many laughs, practised letter identification and matched words to pictures.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have continued to practise our one-to-one counting and making groups, sorting objects based on a specific classification. We know this is important so that we count accurately. We are counting backwards and forward from 0-20 and being very careful how we say the teen numbers, otherwise 'nineteen' can sound like 'ninety'. Ryker discovered he could use his ruler to help him write the teen numbers correctly and loved sharing his discovery with Lexie! We have also begun to learn how to partition numbers, for example, 5 can be partitioned into 1&4, 5&0, and 2&3.

Integrated Studies

Where we live: Sustainability

Our unit this term matches beautifully with our Mentor Text in Literacy. This unit of sustainability has allowed us to build our own personal connection with our area of Beaufort. We began by reading one of Mrs McBride's favourite books; Where the Forest Meets the Sea, by Jeannie Baker. We then went for a walk over to Lake Beaufort to look at the different animals that live on the lake and discussed why we need to help take care of this area.

Wellbeing, RRR, Show & Tell

The sunshine is leaving, and it's so sad. We were very happy to be able to steal a little bit of sunshine to each our lunch in last week.

Please remember to send jumpers to school, unless it's raining, we go outside at playtime.

Show and Tell is a highlight of our day and an important speaking and listening skill to practise. Ryker was very excited to show us his football that his dog bit and burst!

Each day during our morning circle, we have a different 'Positive Primer'. This particular short activity was so popular we have used it to calm our minds and bodies after lunch play. Students listen to the calming music while copying the motions of the jellyfish. I have included the link to the particular clip we used if you have any little jellyfish who struggle to get to sleep. All the students said they felt much more relaxed and happy after 2 minutes of Jellyfish watching.
