ARTS and STEM

In Art this week, students have been exploring Colour. Students in Year 3/4 revised prior understanding of primary and secondary colours and extended colour theory knowledge to include, tertiary colour mixing, saturation, shades and tints.
Last week, students created abstract and known 3D shapes as part of our topic Form. Some very exciting and imaginative forms were created and sent home. Students were thoroughly engaged during the construction process and the 'Tape Shop' was in overdrive across the year levels.
In STEM, Year 5/6 students placed their dome designs to the ultimate weight test. The strongest and most well balanced dome by Chelsea and Jasmine was able to hold all the weights available. Congratulations to them both. Students were able to evaluate the successes and failures and provide feedback once tested on design faults/features and also consider future improvements.
In 3/4 STEM, Students worked in pairs to create a tin foil boat to test water displacement and buoyancy. The winning design by Hayley S. and Judd finally sank after 274 marbles were loaded on board. The next best result was by Harry M. and Eliska with 200 marbles. Each group made predictions and afterwards, evaluated successful designs or reasons why their boat sank quicker than others.
