Term 2 2025

Foundation

This term, our Foundation students have been developing their Fundamental Motor Skills, with a special focus on running. They’ve been learning the key components of a strong running technique — keeping their eyes forward and using their “robot arms”, where arms bend at the elbows and move in opposition to the legs. This helps build coordination and efficiency in movement.

To capture their progress, students were filmed during their PE sessions and the videos have been uploaded to Seesaw. We encourage all families to jump online and check them out – it’s a great way to celebrate your child’s growth and enthusiasm!

In the coming weeks, we’ll be turning our attention to the underarm throw, starting with the foundational movement of rolling. Rolling helps students understand the body mechanics of the underarm throw, and they’ve already had a great time using this skill to knock down pins and aim for targets to score points.

We’ve also introduced some exciting new games that have quickly become class favourites – Angry Ogre and Butterflies and Caterpillars – adding plenty of laughter, teamwork, and energy to each lesson.

A huge well done to our Foundation superstars!

Year 1 & 2

Over the past few weeks, our Year 1 and 2 students have been diving into the exciting world of the forehand strike – and what a fantastic job they’ve done! Our PE teachers have been absolutely blown away by their enthusiasm, progress, and skill development.

Using tennis bats, students have been working through a fun and easy-to-follow sequence: Side on – Punch it (hold the ball out) – Bat ready – Drop – and Scoop! This step-by-step method has helped students confidently strike the ball and send it soaring across the basketball courts with increasing control and power.

Our Year 2 students have taken things to the next level by introducing targets and experimenting with force, adjusting their strikes to land the ball in different zones – a fantastic display of skill, strategy, and spatial awareness.

It’s been wonderful to see how much the students are enjoying this unit. The energy, focus, and smiles say it all – great work, Year 1 and 2!

Year 3 & 4

We’ve recently wrapped up our Athletics jump events – high jump, long jump, and triple jump – and it’s safe to say the students were left wanting more! Their enthusiasm was sky-high, and many wished we had even more time to perfect their jumps.

Following that, our Year 3–6 students took on the beep test, a regular part of our PE program each term. This fitness check-in helps students become more aware of their cardiovascular endurance and whether they’re meeting the recommended levels of physical activity to stay healthy. It’s always inspiring to see how motivated they are to beat their previous scores and encourage each other to go that little bit further!

Next up, we’ll be spending a week focusing on track events, sharpening their speed, technique, and racing skills. After that, it’s on to the throwing events – shot put, discus, and a modified javelin – where students can build strength, coordination, and have a whole lot of fun! Well done to all our budding athletes!

Year 5 & 6

Well done to our senior students on completing the beep test last week! We were so impressed to see that the majority of students either maintained or improved their fitness levels — an awesome reflection of their commitment to staying active. It’s always a joy to see their passion for sport and movement shining through!

This week, we’re shifting our focus to the Athletics running events in preparation for our upcoming Athletics Day. Students will be getting ready to participate in the 100m sprint, the 800m distance run, and team relay events. Additionally we have been playing activities that focused on co-ordination, teamwork and running.

During PE lessons, we’ll be working on:

  • Pacing strategies for distance events
  • Running form and technique
  • Breathing control
  • And most importantly, having fun and celebrating everyone’s efforts!

We’re proud of the way our students continue to challenge themselves, support their peers, and grow both physically and mentally through sport. Keep up the great work, seniors – we can’t wait to see you in action on the track!
