Literacy

In Knowledge, we have been diving into the world of economics. We've explored the difference between wants and needs, and how understanding these helps us make smart financial decisions. We also learnt about the three main types of resources: human resources (people who work), capital resources (machines and tools), and natural resources (things we get from nature). These key concepts have helped us build a solid foundation for understanding how businesses and economies function.

In Writing, we’ve been focusing on note-taking skills to support our end-of-unit Economics project. Each student selected a company to investigate, researching how it operates and the resources it uses. We're using our notes to create informative presentations, which we will share with others in our cohort. As part of the process, we’re also giving and receiving peer feedback based on a rubric we've used throughout the unit. It’s been a great opportunity to practise our research, organisation, and communication skills.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, our focus has been on money and finance. We’ve been learning how to calculate 10%, 25%, and 50% off a given amount, and how to apply these skills to real-life scenarios by working out discounts on sale items. This has helped us develop a deeper understanding of percentages and their practical use in everyday situations, especially when shopping or managing budgets.

We’ve also started our weekly problem-solving lessons, where we work in groups to tackle worded maths problems. These sessions give us the chance to explore different strategies, share our thinking, and learn from one another. In addition, we’ve been learning how to interpret and analyse data. This has supported us in creating our own data displays, helping us understand how information can be represented clearly and effectively through graphs and charts.

Social & Emotional Learning

In SEL (Social and Emotional Learning), we have been learning about how to stay safe online. A big focus has been understanding the difference between banter and bullying, and recognising how our words and actions can affect others in digital spaces. We've had important discussions about how to be respectful and kind, even when communicating through a screen.

We also explored the concept of netiquette—the rules and behaviours that help us interact politely and safely online. Learning about netiquette has helped us understand how to be responsible digital citizens, especially when socialising, gaming, or working in online environments. These lessons are helping us build stronger, safer, and more respectful online communities.
