Term 2 2025

Literacy

In Writing, students have been engaging in the writing process to create an information report based on topics we have learnt in Knowledge. We began with co-constructing an information report where the teacher and students worked together to create a piece of writing. We have now moved on to guided practice where the teacher writes their own report and the students are able to select their own topic and write it alongside the teacher. The last stage will be for students to independently construct their own information report. Students have been very eager to apply the knowledge they have gained about Australia and its neighbours to their writing.

In Knowledge we are finishing our Geography unit about Australia and its Neighbours and are beginning our first Novel unit for the year. Students will begin reading Matilda by Roald Dahl. Students will get their own copy of the novel that will be taken care of at school to read as a class.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been learning how to add and subtract 3-digit numbers. We explored different methods to help us understand these calculations, including using number lines to visualise the steps, bar models to break down the numbers, and focusing on the vertical algorithm for accurate written methods.

Social & Emotional Learning

In SEL, students have focused on the GEM values of Mindfulness, which is when we become aware of the thoughts that we are thinking about and do our best to focus on the present moment. Students have enjoyed doing mindful colouring, meditation and mindful walking to help them focus on what is in their immediate environment. Students have also learned about the importance of the amygdala in processing emotions and the way that it impacts our fight, flight or freeze response.

AUSLAN

In AUSLAN, we have been learning about foods that we would pack into a picnic basket for lunch. Students have enjoyed signing some of their favourite foods, like noodles, bread rolls and sandwiches.

Students have also enjoyed learning about inside appliances, and practiced signing the appliances that they use every day in their homes.
