Term 2 2025

Literacy

In Phonics, students have finished learning our stage 6 phonemes in the Little Learners Love Literacy program. Students have focused on decoding, spelling and writing words and sentences with the digraphs th, ng, ph and wh. We are beginning to learn Stage 7.1 phonemes starting with ai and ay.

In Writing, students are exploring the difference between fact and opinion, understanding factual sentences are formed by true information that can be shown or proven. We are beginning to learn how to plan, write, edit, and publish information reports, focusing on including a title, factual sentences, topic-specific vocabulary and images relating to the topic. We are continuing to expand sentences with details and use correct punctuation, including exclamation marks.

Knowledge

This term, students completed the Geography Unit, Continents, Countries, and Maps. We can now identify the seven continents and five oceans of the world, and can share some interesting features and information about each of these locations. Students are now being introduced to the Health unit, Human Body Systems. We will investigate how the body moves and explore key systems, including the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been developing their understanding of addition by creating number sentences using the + and = symbols. This week they are solving equivalent addition number sentences, building their skills in recognizing patterns and relationships between numbers. As part of our work on money, students are learning to identify Australian coins and understand their values. In the coming weeks they will practise posing meaningful questions to collect data, helping them make connections between numeracy and real-world contexts.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

This week in SEL, students have been learning about Reconciliation Week and this year’s theme, “Bridging Now to Next.” As part of our learning, we explored the meaning of reconciliation. A definition we used in class is: “to come together.” Reconciliation means connecting with people to try and make things better after hurt feelings. Students reflected on the importance of acknowledging the past, showing respect, and working towards a more inclusive and fair future for everyone—especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These discussions and activities are helping students build empathy, understanding, and a strong sense of community.

Auslan

In Auslan this week, students have been learning signs related to camping. They enjoyed practising signs for camping activities and objects and sharing what they might need for a camping trip.
