It’s been a wonderfully creative term in the Visual Arts room! Our students from Foundation through to Year 6 have been diving into a variety of exciting projects, developing their artistic skills, and exploring new ways to express themselves through visual storytelling. Here’s a snapshot of what each year level has been working on:
Our youngest artists have been busy threading and weaving as they create their textile based artworks. Students have been learning how to weave wool to create Very Busy Spiders and Rainbow Serpents based on characters from books. These fun and tactile activities are helping students develop fine motor skills while learning about texture and form in a playful, hands-on way.
Year 1 students are on an exciting journey through the elements of art. Students have been learning about Howard Arkley and his suburban houses. Students have used cereal boxes, and other craft materials to create their own 3D sculptures of these houses, complete with gardens and roofs!
Year 2 students are working with clay to create decorative tiles. They’re exploring how to create texture within their artwork by pressing, carving, and imprinting patterns into the clay — a wonderfully sensory experience that enhances their understanding of surface and design. Students are now working on painting these tiles.
The art room has been looking good enough to eat with Year 3’s delightful papier-mâché donuts! Students are now completing and decorating their creations,by mixing paint to create yummy toppings, and adding final details to bring their imaginative treats to life.
Not to be outdone, Year 4 students are finishing up their papier-mâché ice-creams! These vibrant, whimsical sculptures are a joy to behold and have given students the chance to develop their 3D construction skills and creative flair.
After finishing their plasticine figurines, our senior students are shifting gears into the world of photography! They’re currently designing backdrops for their models. Then they will photograph their models, learning about composition and visual storytelling. The next step? Please bring a cereal box for your backdrop!
