From the Principal

Anthea Jamieson

It was an absolute honour to open the doors to our classrooms during our Learning @ Gilgai Open Morning and proudly showcase the outstanding teaching and learning that is happening every day at Gilgai Plains Primary School.

Events like these give us the opportunity to demonstrate the high expectations we hold – not just for academic achievement, but also for student behaviour. Our staff work incredibly hard to create classrooms where every student is supported, challenged, and cared for. Our teachers are committed professionals who continually develop their skills through professional learning, and we ensure they are well supported to deliver the best education possible. We proudly shared some data with our parents that illustrated how well our students are doing in comparison to Similar Schools and the State.

At Gilgai Plains, we believe that every minute counts. Whether it’s reading, writing, maths, specialist subjects, or building social skills – every part of the school day is purposeful. We explicitly teach the academic curriculum, and we also teach a behaviour curriculum to guide students in how to interact positively, respectfully, and safely with others. These expectations help create a calm, consistent environment where all students can thrive.

Everything we do at Gilgai is underpinned by our core values. We learn, work, and play in ways that reflect what we believe is most important – Kindness, Respect, Zest and Learning Together.

We provide our students with the spelling texts, maths texts, literacy texts, Resilience Project texts, books, novels, learning programs, and resources they need. It’s important that no child should ever miss out. We are proud of the buildings and play spaces we have been fortunate enough to provide our children. If you are able to contribute by paying the school fees, we ask that you please do – every bit helps us maintain high-quality programs and facilities, such as our playgrounds and classroom equipment.

We are also proud of the partnership we build with our families and community. We ask for your continued support in some simple but powerful ways:

  • Please make sure your child attends every day (unless they are unwell of course),
  • Students arrive on time (every minute counts),
  • Wears full school uniform, and
  • Keep the lines of communication open between home and school. Don’t hesitate to speak with a teacher for any question, concern or information that could impact your child at school.

We are proud of our students and the progress they are making, and we know that you are proud too.

Enjoy celebrating your child’s learning journey. They are doing incredible things.

Warm regards,

Anthea Jamieson
