Principal's Report

Jamie Sharp

It’s been a vibrant few weeks at Somerville Primary School, filled with energy, fun, and community spirit. Our Crazy Hair Day was a colourful success thanks to our Junior School Council, with students (and staff!) showing off their creativity while raising funds for the Australian Animal Protection Society, thanks to you we raised $411.

We also celebrated some outstanding effort and determination at the District Cross Country, where our students represented the school with pride and great sportsmanship. Well done to all who competed and congratulations to our students heading to Division.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our Mother’s Day Afternoon—it was a beautiful opportunity to honour the important women in our students’ lives and enjoy some special moments together. Events like these remind us how lucky we are to be part of such a supportive school community.

Prep Enrolments for 2026

It’s an exciting time as we begin preparing for our 2026 Prep intake. If you’re planning to enrol a child at our school for 2026, we encourage you to submit your application as early as possible. Early enrolments help us with planning and ensure we can provide the best possible start for every student.

Starting school is a significant milestone, and we're here to support families through each step of the process. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about what we offer, please feel free to contact the school office. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of learners to our community.

Lunch Clubs – Building Connections Every Day

Each day at lunchtime, our students not only enjoy time outside but also have the option to participate in a variety of staff-led lunch club activities. These clubs offer wonderful opportunities for students to connect with others who share similar interests—whether it's creativity, games, problem-solving, or simply trying something new.

The sessions are always well attended and provide a valuable space for students to build friendships, develop new skills, and feel even more connected to school life. We’re proud of the way our staff support and guide these experiences to help students thrive socially and emotionally.

The flow on effect has been noted with some students in Year 4 creating their own library, bringing resources from home for students to read with during recess and lunch. What a way to develop student voice and agency!

School Review – We’d Love Your Input

As part of our ongoing school review, we are taking a close look at all aspects of Somerville Primary School. To ensure our direction reflects the needs and values of our whole community, we would love to hear from you.

Your feedback as a parent or carer plays a vital role in helping us understand what we’re doing well and where we can grow. By sharing your thoughts, you’ll be helping us create the best possible environment for our students—now and into the future.

A short survey will be sent next week that will take less than 5 minutes and provide our school about the values of parents and carers in our community.

King’s Birthday Long Weekend

A friendly reminder that the school will be closed on Monday, 10 June for the King’s Birthday public holiday. We hope all our families enjoy a safe and relaxing long weekend.

Regards,

Jamie Sharp
