Showcasing the Wonders of Our World: Year 5 Geography Projects
Throughout Term 2, our Year 5 students have been immersed in a rich and engaging Geography Inquiry unit. To finish the term they explored the question: “How might we showcase diverse geography features around the world to an audience?” As a culmination of their learning, students were asked to create detailed and informative posters that highlight the unique features of significant geographical locations around the globe.
To launch the project, students were introduced to Uluru as a model example. Together, they explored key questions that would guide their own research:
- What is the climate in this area?
- What plants and animals are connected to the region?
- How was this geographical feature formed?
- How does the weather impact life in the area?
- How are people connected to this place (e.g. through tourism)?
- Is there an Indigenous or cultural connection to this place?
Using Uluru as inspiration, students developed a plan for their own research project. They selected a geographical feature of interest, from the Dead Sea to the Great Barrier Reef, and used teacher-provided resources and websites to gather high-quality information. With a strong emphasis on both content and presentation, students carefully planned the layout of their posters, paying close attention to detail.
The finished posters reflect the students growing understanding of global geography along with their skills in research, summarising key information, and presenting their work in a way that is engaging and informative. This project has been a meaningful way for students to apply their geographical knowledge.
Well done, Year 5, we are so proud of the curiosity, care and creativity you have shown in this project!
BeeBots and Perimeters: Year 4
As part of one of their Maths units earlier this term, our Year 4 students explored measurement, with a particular focus on length and perimeter. To apply their understanding in a fun and hands-on way, students used BeeBots (small programmable robots) to code movement paths that matched the exact perimeter of various shapes. This engaging activity gave students a practical opportunity to measure, calculate and apply their knowledge of perimeter and use metric units of length in a purposeful context. The excitement of seeing their BeeBots successfully follow a path they had designed helped bring mathematics to life in the classroom - Well done Year 4!
Year 6 Leadership Spheres in Action
On Thursday, our Year 6 students stepped into their leadership roles to design, plan, and run a 30-minute activity session for the Prep and Year 1 children.
The activities included colouring, an obstacle course, BeeBots, mindfulness, and a range of fun games. It was wonderful to see the creativity, care, and enthusiasm the Year 6 leaders brought to the experience.
They provided a meaningful and enjoyable way for our junior students to finish the term on a high.
Well done to all involved!
