St Vinnies Winter Appeal
As we embrace the winter season, we are reminded of the warmth and comfort that a supportive community can bring.
This year, St Joseph's Primary School is once again proud to support the St Vinnies Winter Appeal, an initiative dedicated to helping those in need during the colder months.
We kindly request your generous donations of supermarket vouchers, which will be used to purchase essential items for families struggling to make ends meet. Your contributions will make a significant difference in providing warmth, nourishment, and hope for those less fortunate.
Donations of supermarket vouchers can be sent with your child to school or dropped off at the school office by Friday July 4, the last day of term.
Every little bit helps, and together, we can make a meaningful impact. Thank you for your continued support and generosity.
Sacraments of Confirmation & Eucharist
On Saturday evening we were blessed to gather to celebrate the Sacraments of Confirmation & Eucharist at our church. We are grateful to Bishop Shane and Father Jackson for leading us in the celebrations and to all our families, staff and Father Brian who supported the students throughout their preparations.
To our students, congratulations! We are very proud of you and pray that the gifts of the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen you in all that you do.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will take place on Thursday September 4 at 7.00pm at St Joseph’s Church. If you would like to take this opportunity, it will then allow your child to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation & Eucharist next year.
An Enrolment & Information night will be held on Monday July 28 at 5.00pm in the Arts Centre at school. This night is for parents to come along and hear some information about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to enrol their child/children in the program. Please bring a copy of your child’s Baptism Certificate on the night. The cost of the program will be $10.00 which is also payable on the night (EFTPOS is available and preferred).
The preparation will take place over 4 weeks. This will involve group and individual sessions. We are looking for parents to host and lead group meetings during the program. Please consider if you can assist in this role and let me know prior to the Enrolment & Information night if possible.
If you would like your child to be involved in this process, you will need to attend the information night and enrol your child in the Preparation Program.
To be able to receive this Sacrament, your child must be a Baptised Catholic. If your child is not Baptised, and you would like them to be, please contact me.
If you have any questions regarding the program, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school on 5443 2108 or via email jcornwall@sjquarryhill.catholic.edu.au
This Sunday's Gospel - Sunday June 29 -Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
You are Peter, and I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he said, ‘who do you say I am?’ Then Simon Peter spoke up, ‘You are the Christ,’ he said, ‘the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven.’
A beginning point for discussion of this week's Gospel with children:
- In today’s Gospel what question did Jesus ask his disciples?
- Who was the apostle who replied that Jesus was the Son of the living God?
- What does ‘Peter’ mean?
- Why would Jesus call him a ‘rock’?
- Peter and Paul passed on their faith to the early Christian communities, even though they had some difficult experiences.
- Who are the people who pass the faith on to others today?
- We pray that we may have strong faith like Peter and Paul and be God’s messengers of hope in the world.
