Term 3, Week 2
Welcome back to the Grade 1/2 page!
Welcome back to all of our 1/2 families for Term 3! We are looking forward to another awesome term.
Key Dates:
Check out our first Maths Challenge of the term below!
Last week, our focus text was 'The Imagineer'. The students completed a summary of the text as well as coming up with an idea for an invention that could improve their own lives. This week's text was 'A is for Australian Animals'. The students enjoyed learning facts about animals and had a go at writing an acrostic about one of those animals.
In Mathematics, we have been revising and improving on our strategies to help us recall addition and subtraction number facts as well as consolidating our skills to solve vertical addition and subtraction problems.
This term, our Topic unit focuses on Light and Sound. Students will investigate the uses of light and sound to add effect to a puppet show - their final product for this unit. They will develop skills in script writing, construction and design, whilst developing essential cooperative learning skills. To immerse the students into the unit, they completed an activity to explore and use their five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell) to better understand the world around them. They also identified light sources and examined how light interacts with various materials. This week, we investigated how musical instruments create sound through vibrations.

We will also be doing some additional activities during the week to help celebrate and promote Book Week, including our own judging of the short-listed children’s picture books.
