Bicknell Sports Skills Competition

During Term 2, some of our Grade 6 students took part in the Bicknell Sports Skills Competition, held at half-time during some Bendigo Braves basketball games. They competed against students from other local schools and did an amazing job, making it all the way to the Grand Final!

On the second last day of last Term 2, they got a big surprise when some players from the Bendigo Braves and representatives from Bicknell’s Sports came to visit and announced that our team had won first place, which included winning a $2000 credit to Bicknell’s Sports.

A huge congratulations to all the students (and their families) who were part of this great achievement. I would also like to thank Ms Murphy for organising, training and supporting the students. The prize money will help us buy new sports equipment for our school. Well done, everyone!

Students: Hunter P, Navarre B, Kingson M, Archie M, Genevieve M, Max M, Indi C, Taj W, Reeva C, Pania HP, Lucy E, Georgia B, Louis T and Sophie H.

State Cross Country

Congratulations to Jed H (49th), Max H (57th), Lenny M (69th) and Sonny R (69th), for representing the school at the State Cross Country Championships in Melbourne last week. All of the boys ran superbly, finishing in the top 70 in their respective age groups.  This was a fantastic effort against the best runners from across Victoria on a particularly muddy and challenging Yarra Glen course. The boys have displayed outstanding commitment to their training and we are all very proud of their achievements.

Interschool Sporting Events

We have a number of students representing SGPS in sporting events in the coming weeks. Good luck to all of them. These events include:

Tuesday 5th of August – District Athletics

Wednesday 6th August – Division Netball (Boys and Girls)

Thursday 7th August – Division Football (Boys and Girls)

Thursday 14th August – Region Hockey (Girls)

Tuesday 19th August – Region Soccer (Girls)

All students involved in these events have been informed of their selection and further information can be found on the Compass Parent Portal.
