Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships: 3/4 Schulz

This week in RRRR, students in 3/4 Schulz explored how we use our personal and cultural strengths to overcome challenges.

We began by discussing what strengths are, with students identifying both personal qualities (such as kindness, creativity, or determination) and cultural strengths (such as language, traditions, or community values).

We then worked in pairs and small groups to teach the rest of our class what each of these strengths meant. We made posters and performed role plays to share our understanding. As a class, we reflected on how these strengths help shape our identity and influence how we respond to different situations. This activity encouraged us to appreciate our own unique qualities and those of our peers, helping build a stronger sense of self-awareness and community.

At the end of Term 2, students enjoyed four days of mega recess after reaching their Level 1 reward. There were many excited faces when they realised they would get 15 minutes of extra playtime from Monday to Thursday — a big success for all!

In the coming weeks, students will have the opportunity to choose the Level 1 and Level 2 rewards for this term. Each class will vote to decide the winning rewards. Stay tuned!

Prep Mortlock have been learning about what it means to be responsible. We reviewed our play area schedule, which tells us where we are allowed to play each day. Students have been checking the timetable daily to ensure they are being responsible by playing in the correct area.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

SGPS, we have had another wonderful fortnight!

Well done to those students who have been completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge from home. These students have now read a combined total of 3052 books.

Keep reading everyone.

Hats are back!

As a proud SunSmart school, students will be asked to wear broad-brimmed hats or bucket hats outside from Monday 11th August. This is in line with the Cancer Council’s SunSmart recommendation that hats be worn from mid-August through to the end of April. Although it may not feel like hat weather, UV levels can still be damaging on cool, cloudy days.

Staff will spend the first few days reminding students of this change. Following this, students without an appropriate hat will be required to remain in the shaded area around the hub during lunch and recess.

Too much of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage and skin cancer. UV damage accumulated during childhood and adolescence is associated with an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia. It is also one of the most preventable cancers. You can’t see or feel the sun’s UV. Whatever the weather, if the UV levels are three or more, it’s important to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide!

Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, free SunSmart app, sunsmart.com.au or bom.gov.au.

Hats may be purchased from our uniform supplier, Noone.

Noone's hours are Monday to Friday 9 am-5 pm and Saturday 9 am-12 pm.
