It’s that’s time of year again when we dust off the hot glue gun and put together a costume to celebrate Book Week. This year, Book Week will be celebrated from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August, and the 2025 theme is Book an Adventure! 2025 is a milestone year, celebrating 80 years of the Australian Children’s Book Week!
We have organised 2 family events for the week:
Our Grade 5/6 students will do some additional activities during the week to help celebrate and promote Book Week, including our own judging of the short-listed children’s picture books.
Check out our first Maths Challenge of the term below!
In the Classroom
Welcome back for Term 3! It’s been wonderful to see all the smiling faces back in the classroom after the holidays. The students have been quick to settle back in and jumped straight into some exciting new learning and experiences.
In Reading, we’ve been exploring the difference between literal information and inference—learning how to read between the lines and understand what the author is really trying to tell us. It's been fantastic to see students sharing their thinking and backing up their ideas with evidence from the text.
In Writing, we’ve been getting creative with a fun and persuasive twist—writing real estate ads! From “renovator's dream” to “vintage charm,” the students have let their imaginations run wild while sharpening their persuasive language skills.
In Maths, things have taken flight—literally! We’ve been combining our investigations into measurement and data with a paper plane challenge. The students designed, flew, and measured their planes, collecting data to compare flight distances and analyse results. It’s been a great hands-on way to apply their learning.
A highlight last week was our visit to BSE to watch their performance of Matilda. The students represented our school beautifully, and it was also fun to see the talent on display at BSE (including quite a few of our awesome ex-students!)
It’s shaping up to be another fantastic term!
Regards,
Grade 5/6 Team
