Amazing Ancient Roman Models by Year 7 Impress the School Community

The TAS foyer was recently transformed into a scene straight out of ancient Rome, thanks to the creativity, hard work, and enthusiasm of our talented Year 7 students. Over the past few weeks, Year 7 has been learning all about Ancient Rome in their history lessons and as part of their studies, they created detailed and imaginative models to bring this fascinating period of history to life.

From towering aqueducts and bustling marketplaces to realistic Roman villas and miniature Colosseums, the display was nothing short of spectacular. Each model showcased the students’ dedication,  hard work, and eye for historical detail. Visitors were treated to replica remains, hand-crafted mosaics, clever use of recycled materials, and informative posters explaining the historical significance of each piece.

A special thank you goes out to our Year 7 History teachers and also to the wonderful infants and primary classes who came to visit the exhibition. Hopefully stage 3 students enjoyed completing their ‘Treasure Hunt’ worksheet and got inspired for their own upcoming high school History. Our Year 7 students were thrilled to share their knowledge and hard work with you. This project not only helped Year 7 deepen their understanding of ancient civilizations, but also gave them a chance to express their creativity in a hands-on and engaging way. Well done to all involved—it was truly a triumphant trip back in time.

Year 10 History learn from survivors of the Holocaust

On June 16, Year 10 travelled to the Sydney Jewish Museum to learn from those with personal connections to the Holocaust.

The Holocaust was the organised, deliberate and horrific attempt to eliminate the Jewish people as well as those with disabilities, Roma or Gypsy people, and others under the Nazi regime during World War 2. During this time approximately 6 million Jews were killed. Theirs is an important story that we want to remember and honour and learn from.

At the Sydney Jewish Museum students hear from survivors of the Holocaust and are shown around by relatives of survivors.

Year 8 History - Medieval Day

Last week, we had a spectacular day of immersive learning where Year 8 were entertained by James Adams with his extensive collection of medieval armour and weapons along with his incredible knowledge.

Students then completed an illuminated manuscript with Mrs Stewart and then groups created their own Horrible Histories videos with the help of Mrs Ellery. In the afternoon Year 8 were treated to a medieval market square with food stalls facilitated by Mrs Rogers, Mrs Thomas and Stage 5 Food Tech students.

We also enjoyed learning  ‘the Bear game’ with some of the Year 9 boys. We finished the day with some medieval trivia and activities with our Medieval Game Show.

Thanks to all who helped to make this a special and fun day for Year 8 History.

Year 10 Geography

Last week, our Year 10 Geography students as well as the senior Community and Family Studies class heard from the CEO of Saltcare, Peter Dover on homelessness in the Shoalhaven and the Christian response to community needs.

This provided more insights for our students who have been studying Human Wellbeing in Geography this semester. The message that came across was that we can all do something to change people’s lives, even school students. There was inspiration from Matthew 25:40-45 where Jesus said ‘..whatever you do for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

There are lots of ways to help- stay tuned for more.
