PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation

who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.  As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.

Thank you.

Dear Families of Moorabbin Primary School,

FOOD DRIVE SUCCESS: A COMMUNITY EFFORT TO REMEMBER

Over the last week, our school community came together in a truly inspiring way to support two vital organisations—BayCISS and the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC)—through a school-wide Food Drive. Thanks to the generosity and compassion of our families, we collected over 1,700 items for people in need.

A special thank you goes out to the incredible parents who helped deliver two carloads of donations to the ASRC in Dandenong: Heiril (parent of Safaa in 5V and Nayira in 1D) and Kate (parent of Kieran in 1O). Their help in transporting and coordinating these donations made a huge difference.

BayCISS will be collecting the remainder of the donated items this coming Monday afternoon, ensuring every contribution finds its way to people who need it most.

The ASRC sent us a lovely thank-you message yesterday, which we are thrilled to share with you:

I have just had two lovely parents Kate and Heiril drop off two carloads of donations. We are truly grateful for this generosity. We appreciate everything and it will all disappear from our shelves very quickly! Thanks again, this is an incredibly generous donation, you must have a wonderful school community.

Classroom totals are still being compiled, with the competition for the class pizza party heating up! We’ll be announcing the winning class soon, so stay tuned.

Once again, thank you to every student, family, and staff member who made this drive such a success. Your kindness truly shows what we can achieve when we act together.

BABY NEWS: CONGRATULATIONS TO MS HOWDEN

Congratulations to Amy, her husband and their first-born son who is now a big brother to the very early arrival of little precious Nathan!

I know that Amy would welcome positive thoughts of love and support for her family and little Nathan, as he will need to remain in Hospital and monitored until he is ready to go home. We send Amy all our best wishes and lots of virtual hugs.

AND MORE BABY NEWS!

It is my pleasure to announce that Ms Marina Stefanou is pregnant and is due in December of this year. We are delighted to share this joyous news with our community and hope that you will also take the take to wish Marina all the best during this exciting new chapter that she and her partner are about to go through. Congratulations Ms Stefanou!

LUNCHTIME EATING NEW PROCEDURES

In term 3 and 4 of 2024 and into terms 1 and 2 of this year the school was trailing eating together in cohorts outside with the warm weather and an opportunity to mix with other students. Initially teaching teams supervising everyday were spending a lot of time asking students to sit and eat and try and get through their food while monitoring rubbish, lost property and then students running on the bell to play with their friends.

After many trials, reminders and a continuous collection of lunch boxes and personal items and food constantly in and around play areas we have made the decision to revert back to eating our lunches inside in each of our classrooms from 12.50-1.00pm.

We need your help in regards to the amount of packets and containers that the children are bringing to school, we believe that 10 minutes is more than enough time for children to eat their lunches and in some cases the children feel overwhelmed that they have to get through “lots of food”. We are still getting used to this process so please reach out to your child’s teacher if your child is still bringing their lunch box with uneaten items so that we can support your child during their eating time at school.

We have already found a reduction in lost property and rubbish in the yard; this is really important and positive sign for our school grounds and community.

LET’S BE VIGILANT- A MESSAGE FROM A LOCAL SPORTING ASSOCIATION

I received a message from one of our parents in regard to a very frightening incident at a local netball training facility, so I am copying this message for you to view and monitor your children as you take them to participate in outside afterschool sporting programs.

SWIMMING FOR OUR YEAR 2-3-4 STUDENTS STARTS NEXT WEEK

Next week students in Yrs 2-4 will be attending swimming lessons as part of an 8 day intensive program at the Danny Frawley swim centre. All children along with their classes will be walking to these sessions everyday (even if it rains)! If the weather is scheduled for rain please provide your child with a raincoat or umbrella.

Here are a few things that we think will help in the smooth organisation of each day:

  • The walk is about a 10-13 minutes from the school grounds to the pool, below is the path that we will be taking each day

  • Having a “Separate swimming bag” ready with their swimming requirements is essential, in this bag there needs to be a towel, swim cap, goggles, hairbrush/comb (if required), plastic bag for the wet items

  • It is beneficial and saves time if the students have their swimming gear on underneath their uniform

  • Please send an extra pair of underwear and socks JUST IN CASE!!!

  • Please do not send your child to school with flip flops/ sandals etc… as they need proper walking shoes or trainers to and from the school to the pool

  • If your child’s schedule for swimming is during a recess break, when they return, they will be provided with time to eat and play

  • PRACTICE… PRACTICE… PRACTICE… getting in and out of their swimmers and packing unpacking their swim bag

  • Only parent helpers with current WWCC will be allowed in and out of the pool area, due to very strict Child safety standard requirements- please communicate directly with your child’s teacher if you are seeking to be a parent helper

  • NO PHOTOS OR VIDEOS OF ANY CHILD WHILE AT THE POOL, OR IN THE POOL

WORKING BEE THANK YOU

On behalf of our community, I would like to thank all the families that were able to attend and support our winter working bee on Saturday 14th June. A very special mention to Chris Wende for his incredible organisation of the day, making sure everyone knew what they had to do as we all worked through his ambitious list to clean, tidy, trim, sweep, paint and make our school look amazing! Thank you!

I finish up with a few photos from the year 5-6 excursion to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat on Tuesday. We had a wonderful time, and this experience is well worth attending. Thank you to our dedicated teachers, aides and parents that came along to support our students.

Enjoy your weekend...
