Coding Creations in STEAM

For the past couple of weeks in the STEAM classroom, students from Foundation to Year 6 have been learning to code.

Foundation to Year 3 have been using the ScratchJr  app on the iPads to snap together graphical programming blocks to make their characters and projects come to life.

This week Foundation students have  learnt to code their 'sprites' or characters to move across several backdrops. They used the various motion blocks to make a car drive across the city.

Year 1/2 students learnt to code three sprites to complete a running race and were introduced to the speed, speech and add a title blocks.

Year 3 students created a 'moonrise after sunset' project which focussed on editing features and using the 'end' blocks to change from one page in the project to another page.

Year 5 students used Scratch 3.0 to animate their names. They were introduced to how to add backgrounds, sound and movement to their letters.

Year 6 students have been using BBC Micro:Bits for the past two weeks. Micro:Bits are pocket sized programmable computers. With their LED light display, buttons and sensors, students have coded their name tag, smiley buttons, clap light sensors and dice.
