Unsure how to talk to your child/ren about staying safe online? Then come along at 7pm on Tuesday 29th October to the school stadium as VPS will be hosting a ThinkUKnow parent night
ThinkUKnow Australia is an evidence based education program delivered nationally to prevent online child sexual exploitation.
The night will be hosted by Michelle Zhao from Australian Federal Police and Graham Higgerson from Neighbourhood Watch. The presentation is pro-technology and addresses topics including self-generated child abuse material, online grooming, sexual extortion, and importantly encourages help seeking behaviour.
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about young people and the online environment, and how you can help them to be safe and responsible users of technology.
Please click here to register your interest in attending this presentation.
For more information, you can visit www.thinkuknow.org.au or contact julie.hall2@education.vic.gov.au
Welcome to Term 4 of Year Three!
We have a lot of exciting activities coming up in the next few weeks, one of them being Pancake making. On Friday 1st November, Year 3 students will have the opportunity to cook some pancakes! This is to conclude our procedural writing unit, where students have been working on creating informative, accurate and detailed procedural writing pieces. They will be following instructions they have written throughout the unit for making pancakes.
The list of ingredients that we will be using is below, so please let your classroom teacher know if there is something that your child can not consume. If you would like, we kindly ask you to send an alternate treat for them to enjoy instead.
Parent Helpers:
In order for the day to run smoothly, we are after four parent helpers that could be at school from 9.00 - 3.15pm. Each class will be split up into groups and be supervised by the adult to help make their pancakes. You would work with your child's class, but also the other Year 3 classes throughout the day. If you are available and would be willing to help, please email Kate Yates (kate.yates@education.vic.gov.au).
If you have any further questions about the day, please email Kate or your child's classroom teacher.
Ingredients: Egg, Sugar, Flour, Baking Powder, Salt, Milk, Oil, Vanilla Essence
Optional: Various Toppings (maple syrup, chocolate topping, sprinkles, whipped cream, lemon)
Another exciting activity we have planned for the children is our excursion to Edendale Farm. This term, Year 3 students are learning about Recycling and Waste in our Inquiry Unit 'Oh, What A Waste!'. We are excited to be heading to Edendale Community Farm on Wednesday 6th November, to complete a range of different activities to learn more about waste management and recycling. Students are asked to arrive at school by 8.45am, and will need to bring their hat, water bottle and lunch box in a small back pack. Excursion details and payment requirements are not on Compass and are due by Wednesday 30th October. If you have any questions about the excursion, please contact your child's classroom teacher.
Here are some examples of work the Year Three students have completed recently on symmetry, tessellations and flip/slide/turn:
Welcome to Term 4 of Year Four!
We hope everyone has had a wonderful break! There will be lots of amazing events throughout the term and we hope that the students will enjoy the rest of the year.
One exciting event that students will be able to attend is our excursion to the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium. The excursion will be linked to our Inquiry Unit, 'Great Barrier Reef', and students will participate in a guided tour focusing on sustainable practices that support the ongoing conservation of the reef. Permissions via Compass will be available for parents at the start of November.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, students have been delighted to hear our new unit for Term 4. Throughout the term, students will be learning about the Great Barrier Reef. Our classes will explore the science behind the Great Barrier Reef, including the living organisms in the reef and how we can protect this environment. To start off the unit, the classes have been creating their own display of the Great Barrier Reef.

Mathematics
In the first week of Term 4, students were introduced to volume during Mathematics. The students worked together in small groups to investigate the volumes of some cuboids and rectangular prisms.
Here are some of the posters created by the Year Four students:
Hats
Since the weather has been getting warmer, we ask students to bring their hats during Term 4. It is also important that their hats are labelled with their name to ensure that it is returned to them, if it ever goes missing.
