Celebrating Our Strengths
Our work within the Friendology program has continued through out the year with students learning about social awareness, emotional literacy and strategies for navigating friendship challenges.
We have covered topics including ways to develop new friendships, tricky situations in friendships, positive coping strategies and help seeking conversations.
You can support and reinforce the work we are doing at school by taking advantage of the free resources available via the parent portal and the free family membership offered by URStrong. You can access these resources through the link below.
Late last term, the staff celebrated R U Ok? Day by recognising the strengths within each other and discussing the importance of open communication and checking in on our friends and families. By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up.
Below is a link to the R U Ok? Day website which contains lots of resources aimed at both adults and children in primary and secondary school. These resources outline how to start a conversation, the importance of following up and additional support systems and contacts.
On Tuesday 29th October, VPS will have a cyber safety evening for families to attend, run by the Federal Police. This session will address various challenges faced by young people surrounding internet and social media use, as well as information regarding who to report to if you are concerned. Attached is a poster with the date, time and location of the session.
As always, please feel free to reach out for more information about anything related to Friendology, student wellbeing or individual concerns you may have. I am contactable via compass, through the office or via email – louise.jarvis@education.vic.gov.au
Have a lovely weekend,
