WEEKEND REC ACTIVITIES

Bondi Beach Coastal Walk & Acai Bowls

Earlier in September the Kambala girls kicked off the first day of Spring with a delightful outing to Bondi Beach. The girls took on the scenic coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama, enjoying breathtaking views of crystal blue waters under a cloudless sky. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, with warm sunshine setting the scene for a beautiful day outdoors.

After completing the walk, the girls treated themselves to refreshing acai bowls by the beach, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying each other’s company. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the arrival of spring and create some special memories by the sea!

Sunday walk to Rose Bay and Hot Chocolate Treat

On Sunday 8 September, the Kambala Boarders embraced the spring weather with a leisurely walk to Rose Bay, followed by a delicious hot chocolate treat. The group set off in the morning, enjoying the fresh air and scenic route, with stunning views of Sydney Harbour and local parks.

The walk provided a perfect mix of exercise and relaxation, with plenty of time for the girls to chat, laugh, and enjoy each other's company. As they reached Rose Bay, the girls were treated to a delicious hot chocolate. Sipping on their hot drinks, they enjoyed a walk along the Rose Bay waterfront before returning to school.

This outing was a wonderful way to start the day, combining fitness, friendship, and a sweet treat. It was also a nice break from some busy assessment preparations for the coming week. A big thank you to all the boarders who came along.

Tivoli Afternoon Rec Activities

Games with Mr Hay

Enjoying the spectacular weather on the second last day of Winter, the Years 7, 8 and 9 girls headed out to the oval with "Gappie" Elleanor and Mr Hay for an afternoon of games.

Tivoli girls got creative with an oil painting activity, supplied with lots of oil crayons and coloured paper. It was a great opportunity to unwind and be mindful after a busy school day. The office is also looking brighter after displaying some of their work!

Staff Update/ Staff Profile

Isla Hutchison

Isla has been working at Kambala since March. Isla is currently studying Arts/Advanced Studies (Politics/International Relations) as a Dalyell Scholar at The University of Sydney. Isla spent her first 3 years of her degree living at The Women’s College. This was a fantastic experience and allowed Isla to make many friends and enjoy the extensive intercollegiate sports, social, leadership and cultural offerings available. One of the highlights of Isla’s time at the University of Sydney was organising, fundraising for, and running the Sony St Andrew’s College Children’s Camp which is a multi-day, non-profit, respite care camp run by the intercollegiate community for children with disabilities.

Following her time at College, Isla spent six months travelling in Europe. Some of the highlights include completing the Tour Du Mont Blanc, being in Paris for the Rugby World Cup, and spending time with relatives in Scotland.

Isla loves working at Kambala and finds it incredibly rewarding working with the boarders and her colleagues. Isla has found her degree very interesting, however, will likely pursue additional study following graduation.

When she’s not working at Kambala Isla loves getting home to her family in Newcastle, and going for beach walks, brunches and dinners with friends in Sydney.

Saturday Sport

Week 6 saw some fantastic Saturday sport results. Congratulations to Eva and Emily (Yr 9) for their win at netball this weekend. The girls won their game 31-12 - Congratulations! Amarni (Yr 8) also won her basketball game even though her team was down players due to illness, an amazing effort!

The senior Hockey girls played a solid match this weekend against PLC, with parents down for the POB weekend in the crowd supporting and cheering our girls on, Kambala pulled ahead with a 4-0 win! This takes the girls into the semi finals next weekend, good luck girls! A big thank you to Jacinta Purvis for snapping these awesome pictures of the girls and a shout out to the parents who attended the game.

Week 7 was an exciting one for Emily and Eva in the Kambala 7 Netball team winning their minor final and locking in a place in the grand final next week. Well done girls.

Events

We would like to congratulate Sophie (Yr 11) for her inspiring efforts to educate her peers on skin cancer with the launch of her awareness program: Australian Pilot Sun Safety and Skin Care workshop. You can watch Sophie’s interview with Weekend Today here.

Year 9 Commerce Stalls

As part of the commerce curriculum, Year 9 girls have been developing and making a product and then selling it at a lunch time market stall as a small business experiential learning experience. These products included things such as scented candles, slime, decorative trinket bowls, jewellery and more. Our clever Year 9’s Zara, Layla, Emily and Eva worked hard with their groups and had two very successful market days. The money raised goes towards charity.

Community Weekend

Friday night at the Bellevue Hotel

The Parents of Boarders Community Weekend kicked off with dinner at the Bellevue Hotel in Paddington. It was so nice to see parents and siblings sharing dinner, having conversations and making connections. The girls had a great time playing cards, chatting together and with parents, and watching the Parramatta vs West Tigers game on the screens around the venue. The girls who stayed in for the evening were driven back to boarding in the Kambala bus by Jo, playing music, singing and laughing together, everyone returned to boarding with a smile on their face.

Boarders and Parents Tennis Afternoon Tea

On Saturday afternoon, our boarders and their parents gathered for a lively Tennis Afternoon Tea filled with fun, laughter, and a mix of exciting activities. Alongside friendly tennis matches on the school courts, everyone enjoyed a variety of games, including touch football, volleyball, hula hooping, and basketball.

The sports added a wonderful dynamic to the day, allowing everyone to get involved, whether rallying on the tennis court, passing a volleyball, shooting hoops, or showing off some hula hooping skills. After all the action, everyone relaxed with a delightful afternoon tea featuring sushi, pastries, cheese and crackers, and fresh fruit.

It was a fantastic afternoon celebrating community spirit, staying active, and enjoying each other’s company. A huge thank you to all the parents and boarders who joined in the fun. We can’t wait to do it all again soon!

Boarders and Parents Enjoy Dinner at El Camino!

On Saturday night, Kambala boarders and their parents gathered for a memorable dinner at El Camino, a lively Tex-Mex restaurant at Moore Park. The evening was filled with laughter, great food, colourful fiesta hats, and a wonderful sense of community as students, parents, and staff came together to celebrate the end of a busy term.

The menu featured a delicious spread of chips and dips, wings, fajitas and churros, accompanied by lively conversation and a vibrant atmosphere that truly reflected the El Camino spirit. It was a fantastic opportunity for boarders to connect with their parents and peers in a relaxed and enjoyable setting, and for parents to meet and bond with other families.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening so special. We look forward to more events like this in the future to strengthen our wonderful community!
