Mathematics

Our Mathematics topics for the term will align with two key areas in the Victorian Curriculum - Number & Algebra, and Measurement & Geometry. Our Number & Algebra foci for the term will include:

  • Fractions - students will be introduced to fractions and come to understand that fractions make up part of a whole. They will become familiar with halves, quarters and eighths and recognize the ways they can be connected by repeated halving. Students will regularly consolidate this knowledge through rich, open-ended problem-solving activities in class.
  • Revision and consolidation of place value, addition and subtraction.

Our Measurement & Geometry foci for the term will include:

  • Time - students will consolidate their understanding of the features of both digital and analogue clocks and be able to tell the time using ‘quarter to’ and ‘quarter past’ language.
  • Mass - students will be explicitly instructed to estimate, compare and calculate the masses of objects using informal and formal  units of measurement.
