Step Right Up! Kingswood School Concert
2024 is our 'performance / concert year'. For our new families, this happens every 2 years. We always have a theme and we always engage an outside provider to assist with the dance/movement component of the concert. For our last concert - Connections in 2022, Stomp! Dance Company provided dance lessons for the students which were paid for by parents.
This year our concert theme is the circus: Step Right Up! which will be highly engaging for the students and something which they haven't experienced first hand as performers.
Therefore, Kingswood Primary School has engaged the services of The Circus Crew to provide a 5 week circus program for all students in Term 4 which will then culminate in our school concert, showcasing the skills that the students have learnt. This will also celebrate the opening of our new gymnasium.
Over the 5 weeks, students will experience a variety of age appropriate circus skills such as: juggling, floor displays, balance routines, plate spinning, poi – and much more. Each class will then specialise in a specific skill which they will perform at our concert.
Circus skills have been demonstrated to enhance students’ social, emotional and physical development. The Circus Crew's program is inclusive for all. On top of the sheer joy of joining in, participation boosts confidence and concentration levels, builds invaluable teamwork skills, improves co-ordination and uncovers hidden talents. This aligns strongly with all our school values: Be Engaged, Be Curious, Be Inspired, Be Leaders and Be Interdependent. It also provides opportunities for our students to use the Habits of Mind as they demonstrate persistence and respond with wonderment and awe.
We believe that our students are very excited about participating in this quite different style of concert. Our Years 3 - 6 auditioned dancers have already started learning their routine with Ms Christo and Ms Fisher-White on Thursday lunchtimes, and their enthusiasm and vitality is a joy to watch.
The Circus Skills Program will start on Monday 7th October [first day of Term 4] and will run for 4 weeks. We will then have a break in Week 5 [Curriculum Day, Melbourne Cup Day] and have our final circus classes in Week 6.
Dress rehearsals and concerts will be in Week 7. The dates of the concerts are: Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th November.
The Circus Crew provide the costumes for the students and these will be worn over the top of black clothing (e.g. Black t-shirts and black long black pants or leggings). And in further good news, the students will be performing in bare feet, so there is no need for parents to purchase specific footwear (like we have asked for in previous concerts).
Further details such as the circus skills timetable and cast lists will be provided once they have been finalised. However, Year 4 classes will be timetabled for Fridays so that there is no clash with their camp.
If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me or the school office.
