Sustainability News
Dear Families,
At the start of Term 4, we find ourselves in Poorneet season. During this season, notice the mixed up weather – cool and rainy days, warm and sunny days, when the days and nights are equal length. Listen for the pied currawongs calling and, in the evenings, the grass frogs croaking. If you visit a healthy creek or even the Birrarung at dusk or dawn, you might be lucky enough to see a platypus!
At Bimbadeen Heights PS, Gardening Club is continuing to grow. We have been busy weeding through winter, picking up any stray rubbish, and getting ready to plant. Students have been helping choose native and local, indigenous plants for our upcoming project – we are going to rejuvenate the garden beds around the Yarn Circle and central garden between the Prep and Grade One rooms. We are planning to include many useful plants that attract wildlife – minibeasts, butterflies and birds – to increase biodiversity in our beautiful school.
But – we need your help!
We have been collecting data on how many people, students and adults alike, who are entering these garden beds before, during and after school. We would like to remind everyone to use the paths so that our new plants can thrive. The plants/garden will become a part of our learning in Science, Sustainability and First Nations Perspectives. Gardening Club is super excited about planting this garden as a gift to our school community and we are looking forward to them growing big and strong. We hope that you can help us with our vision.
