THE VICTORIAN PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE

Young Authors’ Program

Last Thursday, our Young Authors participated in their third workshop at the Australian Catholic University in Ballarat. Students participated in a range of activities with the theme, ‘Inspiration From Real Life.’ The four workshops included activities where they met multiple authors, an illustrator, and were involved in writing, planning, illustrating and performing throughout the day. Students were given a guided tour of the university from paramedic and physiotherapy students, as well as participating in some of the real life classes and resources used by students undertaking their studies.

Here are some reflections on the day from our Young Authors:

Abigail - I enjoyed all the workshops because they taught me how to use all the things that I have learnt into my writing as well as inspire me. Now I really want to be an author or an illustrator.

Rebekah - I loved the workshop with Peader and Andy. It was called the ‘Collaboration Workshop’ and it was so inspiring. Peader and Andy were so funny and kind, I am looking forward to reading their books. So overall the collaboration between Author and Illustrator was my favourite.

Archie - My favourite workshop was ‘Bringing History to Life’ where we looked at scary evil characters. I like scary stuff and second, I like designing shady outfits and writing horror stories.

Violet - I enjoyed the campus tour, paramedicine workshop and Andy and Peader’s workshop. I loved learning about what you do when you are a paramedic, it really inspired me because when I am older, I want to study medicine. I really enjoyed Andy and Peader’s workshop. I loved learning about making funny characters and amazing stories.

Jake - I enjoyed the ‘Collaboration Workshop’ because it taught us how to draw characters and combine ideas so that we can start our stories better and add characters.

Coco - The campus tour was my favourite because I want to be a paramedic when I am older. We got to see lots of the places and the training involved. I also liked the villain making workshop.
