Term 3 Sports Report
What a term! It has been exceedingly hectic with SSV team and individual sports, the Olympic Games and our Mini Olympics and some Cricket Victoria clinics, just to name a few. Here is the termly wrap up.
SSV State Cross-Country
Macaila B, Emily H, Levi B, Perry W & Samuel D competed in exceptionally wet and muddy conditions at the SSV State Cross Country in July in the Yarra Ranges. The weather in the lead-up to the event had been extreme and there were even fire hoses to wash the mud off at the finish line! It was great to see that some still had a smile on their face at the end of the run.
SSV Division Netball
We had two teams represent the school at the Division Netball in July. Our girls' team were competitive throughout the day but met some tough competition to bundle them out of the finals.
A big thank you to Bianca Comer for giving up her time to coach the girls on the day.
Our boys' team went undefeated in their pool and met St Francis in a hotly contested Grand Final, going down by 1 goal and coming runners up. This still earned them a place at the Regional event in August.
SSV Division & Region Football
The week after netball we headed up the hill to Kennington Primary School for the Division Football. This time our girls' team won in a nail bitter grand final against St Francis earning a place at the Region event in Swan Hill in August. The girl's had a great day in the beautiful sunshine and played well on the small ground.
A big thank you to Matt Gretgrix and Adam Beasley for giving up their time to coach the girls and Mrs Bombardieri as team manager.
Our boys went into the division event without a couple of their key players and met some tough competition which bundled them out of the final.
A big thank you to Mr McInnes and Mr Sexton for coaching and managing the boys' team on the day.
Mini Olympics
During the Olympic Games, the students of St Therese's competed in the St Therese's Mini Olympics. Who would've thought a laminated medal would be so hotly contested! Students competed in lots of events to earn points for their school-house (country), in events such as canoe slalom, noodle fencing, equestrian jumping, noodle javelin, egg and spoon, pictogram challenge and many more! The medal tally and house points were updated every day with the winning house of the Mini Olympics being Red (Owens) House.
Thank you to M4James for their creative chalk drawing for our Foundation students.
A big shout out to Miss Courtney for making the hundreds of medals we handed out over the Mini Olympics!
SSV Region Soccer & Netball
We had an early start for a long bus road trip to Swan Hill to compete in the Region Soccer and Netball Championships.
The boys' soccer team won their way through to the regional event last term. The boys played exceptionally well throughout the day and played off in the grand final against Kennington Primary School. In a hard-fought contest, the boys went down 1-0 handing them the Region runners-up flag.
A huge shout out to the members of our soccer team who trained themselves (led by Charlie Z) after school once a week from the division event to get them ready for the regional championships. Your commitment was commendable.
A big thank you to Mr McInnes and Miss Courtney for their super coaching and team management on the day.
Our boys/mixed netball team competed strongly in their pool and won their semi-final securing a place in the grand final against St Francis. The final started tight, but we found our rhythm and won the grand final 15-7 winning our way to the State Championships in September. Mrs Woods was pretty excited that we got to go a step further than last year!
Thank you to Macaila B, Violet H and Piper C who were called up at late notice to help the team.
Best of luck to Xavier M, Callen H, Cale P, Jesse C, Macaila B, Piper C, Quinn C, Jye MacD, Levi B, Riley C and Jack H in the upcoming State Netball Championships.
Catholic (Backhaus District) Athletics Championships
Congratulations to all the students who competed in the very trying conditions at our recent Catholic Athletics Championships. The rain put a dampener on many things but not our competitive spirit. Even in these damp conditions we had a couple of superstars break some long-standing records in the triple jump event for their age groups. Congratulations to Xavier M and Louis L on your record-breaking jumps on the day! Congratulations also go to Samuel D who broke the 1500m record for his age group in the following week for the rescheduled events!
We wish the students who progressed to the Division Athletics Championships best.
SSV Division Basketball
This tournament snuck up on us with so many other events happening this term. Both our girls' and boys' teams performed well on the day and enjoyed the experience.
A big thank you goes to Rachel Hubble, Corey Mulqueen and Trevor Bell who gave up their time to help with the team selection, train and coach the students.
Cricket Victoria Clinics
Cricket Victoria and the Melbourne Renegades recently visited our Middle unit to run some awesome cricket clinics. Both staff and students learned lots of new skills and games from the clinics and got to meet and chat with some of the Renegades players. We were very lucky to be visited by our past student, now Cricket Australia and Melbourne Renegades player, Tayla Vlaeminck!
The students in the middle unit will be taking part in the Mascot Challenge in Term 4 and are excited about their excursion to a Big Bash game. More details will follow next term.
Team VIC
A massive congratulations to Cale P who has been selected to represent Victoria in Team VIC for Cricket in Term 4. Cale underwent a rigorous selection process to earn his place on the team. We are excited and proud of Cale's achievements and will cheer him on in December.
Late news ... SSV Division Athletics
Well done to all the students who competed in the SSV Division Athletics on Monday. Congratulations to the following students who are progressing through to the Region event in Term 4 for individual events:

After all of that, it is time for this PE teacher to put her feet up with a book and take a well-deserved break.
Safe holidays everyone.
Mrs Woods.
