Busy little workers in the garden
Grade 2 have been building a No-Dig garden bed on the top of our orchard lawn. We made it in layers like a lasagne! Now we will let it sit for a few weeks before we plant our herbs.
Prep scientists have set up a seed growing experiment in their classrooms in glass jars. They will be able to watch the seed open and send out roots and shoots.
Grade 5 and 6 have worked hard to prepare our vegetable gardens for planting. They have been cutting back old plants and making space for new ones.
Did you know that after the food and garden waste in our FOGO bins is turned into amazing high grade compost, it is used in farms across Victoria? When we use our FOGO bins, we are helping to grow our own food!
To avoid getting microplastics in our compost and food, we need to make sure that we put the right things in our bin. The workers at the composting facility take out as much rubbish as they can, but small items are too hard for them to remove. Taking the time to remove things like fruit stickers and teabags from our home bins will help us get unwanted plastic out of the system.
