Principals' Message

Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Pride, Optimism

Hello Parents and Friends,

Welcome back to Term 2!  We hope you all had a relaxing and very happy Easter!

It has been a fantastic start to Term 2 with so many rich learning experiences already commencing.  As you will read in the Term 2 Overviews, there is so much in store for our students this term.

Our Grade 5/6 students had a fantastic time on their camp this week.  The campers attended Alexandra Adventure Resort.  They could not have had better weather on Monday and Tuesday.  This allowed them to undertake every activity that the resort had to offer.  This included the flying fox, high ropes course, crate stacking, canoeing, raft building and so much more. The students came back to school on Wednesday afternoon exhausted, but with huge smiles on their faces.  We would like to thank the school staff and parent volunteers for attending the camp.  Our parent volunteers were Dave Sampimon, Joe Fazzari, Kim Naismith, Pauline Chen, Adem Shemshedin, Tanja Rakic, Cara Barrett and Amanda Morgan. We are so grateful for their hard work over the week.

Finally, Mark will be on carer’s leave over the next couple of weeks and return to school on Tuesday 14th of May.  Brian will be the Acting Principal during this time.

Uniform Shop Discount

From Monday 29th of April, all current stock of the Templestowe Park PS uniform will be

reduced by 50%.  The School Council have decided to reduce our current stock in preparation for the launch of our new uniform later in the year.

A transition to our new uniform will take place over the next two years.  Both the old and new uniform can be worn until 2026.  This provides a two-year transition (approximately the lifespan of a school polo) to our new uniform.

  • Thursday afternoon                      3.30pm to 4.00pm

ANZAC Commemoration

Today,  we held a special ANZAC commemoration Assembly.  It was wonderful to see

many members of our community in attendance.  Our Grade 4 students spoke so beautifully about the ANZAC spirit and the sacrifices that so many Australian and New Zealand men and women made so we can live in a free and peaceful country.

Term 2 Positive Education focus – Growth Mindset

The whole school Positive Education focus in Term 2 is Growth Mindset. Children with a

growth mindset have an ‘I Can Do This’ attitude and tackle every new experience as if it is an opportunity to learn. They understand that the brain can get smarter and because of this, they do better in school because they have an empowering perspective on learning. We would really love our students to focus on effort as a way to build their abilities and see failure as a natural part of the learning process.

Below you will find an excellent and very easy to read article about how parents can promote a growth mindset with their children at home. There is a great section that outlines the things that we should say and not say. We have found this very useful.

Education Week and Open Day/Night – Spotlight on STEM

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. This year Victoria will

celebrate Education Week from Monday 13 May to Friday 17 May.

The theme will be Spotlight on STEM, a chance for schools to celebrate and share how they bring science, technology, engineering, and maths to life in the classroom. We will once again, have a very special Open Night where we will celebrate STEM learning within our school.  This will include STEM challenges and activities in every classroom.  Students will collect an Open Night passport and collect stamps as they visit all the different class and specialist rooms across the school.

Our Open Morning allows parents, carers and the community to come into the classrooms and see our students at work.

More information about these days will be forwarded to you in our next newsletter.

  • Open Morning: Thursday 16th May (9:30am to 10:30am)
  • Open Night: Thursday 16th May (5:00pm to 6:30pm)

PFA Mothers' Day Stall

We look forward to the annual Mothers' Day Stall that our amazing PFA run each year. Please see the PFA section of the newsletter for further information.

Facilities Update

Over the school holidays there was a number of facilities upgrades that took place. Major

painting works were undertaken throughout the school. This included painting the façade of our school hall, our Outdoor Eco Education Centre and many other areas around the school. Additionally, new pinboards were placed up in the corridor of the main building.  This modernised our main building and it provides an excellent canvas for student work to be displayed. New safety capping was also installed on many steps around the school and some water leaks were repaired.

The school currently looks fantastic and the investment by School Council allows us to maintain and improve our buildings.  We should all be very proud of the school grounds and buildings.

Parking Around TPPS

Just a reminder about parking and road safety around TPPS.  It is our entire school community's responsibility to ensure the safety of our students.

We are very lucky to have multiple entry points to the school and a very accommodating Greek Church that allows us to use their carpark throughout the day.  All parking and drop off information can be found in the ‘Parking Around TPPS’ document. This document can be found below and is permanently kept in the Community Section of Compass (choose School Documentation from the drop-down menu, then School Community Information, then click on the document).

Principals’ Award

At Assembly this afternoon, the Principals’ Award was presented to Arianna P in 4L.

Arianna is a kind, hardworking and exceptionally talented young person. Arianna excels in the classroom where she consistently provides her best effort in everything she does.  Her kindness and respect towards her teachers and peers is amazing, and she makes 4L a wonderful learning environment. Arianna’s hard work and perseverance is most evident in her sporting pursuits.  Arianna is an exceptional diver.  At the recent 2024 Diving Australia Nationals, Arianna won two silver medals in the U11 category.  This is an amazing achievement and we are so proud of her.  Keep up the great work, Arianna!

School Tours

We currently undertake school tours for prospective families on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  Please call Katie or Brenda in the office to book.  Please encourage your family, friends or neighbours to reach out and book a time if they are thinking of attending TPPS.
