Year 2's Big Day Out

On Friday 3rd May, Year 2 travelled to the Melbourne Museum and the Imax to learn more about animals and their unique habitats.  First stop in our day was the Aboriginal gardens where we spent time looking for the live eels in the outdoor ponds. We had to look hard to see them as they usually only come up for feeding time.

Next, we moved on to the Rainforest Walk where we were able to find small fish, frogs, and skinks. We were amazed at how tall the rainforest trees were and at how loud the bird calls were. After that we moved indoors to see the bugs and the dinosaurs.

We loved looking at the dinosaurs because they are just about as big as the Blue Whale we have been learning about. The animations helped us to see how they moved and what kind of food they ate centuries ago.

After a picnic lunch stop we were able to sit in the Imax Theatre to watch “Our Frozen Planet” wearing 3D glasses. The movie took us through four seasons so we saw the warmer months when the animals can easily find food to the freezing temperatures when it may take days for them to find anything to eat. In their recounts, students said:

“I enjoyed looking at the big white ice chunks falling on the water” (Sienna).

Mark said, “ I was impressed when I saw the hungry pack of wolves hunting down the scared muskox”.

William was amazed that the white silky baby seal could survive on the ice without its mum after just 12 days.

Sophia found the polar bears interesting because they swam for ten days in the deep water towards land and were strong enough to do it all.

All too soon we were on the bus again and heading back to school. We are looking forward to making a diorama to show how one of these animals survives in its habitat. A big thank you to everyone who made this great day out possible.

Foundation visited Myuna Farm

During week three, our foundation students had an exciting day at Myuna Farm. They rode a tractor train to spot fruit bats, enjoyed petting various animals in the petting zoo, hand-fed sheep, goats, and even a camel, and planted their own beans.

Winter Play Offs

Recently we had 38 grade 5 and 6 students represent TPS at the Southport District winter play offs. The hockey, soccer and netball team all represented TPS with pride, showing all of our school values. Congratulations to the hockey team who won their competition and will represent TPS at the Southport District  Divisions in July. The soccer team were runners up in their competition. Well done to all the students involved!

Mothers Day Lunch

On Friday the 3rd of May, close to 100 TPS Mothers came together at the Terrace - Royal Botanic Gardens to celebrate the amazing community we have at Toorak Primary.

The event was a HUGE success and we could not have wished for a more glorious autumn day as we enjoyed a delicious lunch, laughed with friends old and new, and marveled at the amazing raffle prizes that were up for grabs, with all profits raised going towards upgrades of play areas and gardens at our school.

Thank you Jade Saunders and Michelle Stephen for meticulously organising such a wonderful day, and a very special mention to Danielle Robinson and all the very generous sponsors and donators of goods and services from our wider  community.

We hope to see you next year at what is becoming one of the most anticipated fundraising events on the TPS calendar!

ANZAC Day Appeal

Our ANZAC Badge Appeal 2024 was a huge success raising a whopping $728.00.  We thank our Junior School Council for spreading the word, our students who sold badges before school and our TPS community for supporting this wonderful cause. It was a great team effort!
