Assistant Principal's Message

Mr Mark Walsh
Mr Mark Walsh

We are truly well into term 2 with lots of exciting learning and events happening at Toorak Primary School. I have enjoyed getting to know the community at TPS over the recent weeks, and want to say a big thank you to everyone for the warm welcome. I feel privileged to be part of such a wonderful school.

At Toorak Primary, we are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment where every student feels valued and supported. One of the key initiatives we use to achieve this is our school-wide positive behaviour program. This program is designed to recognise and reinforce positive behaviours, empowering our students to make responsible choices and contribute positively to our school community.

A core component of our SWPB program is our token system, which operates on the principles of honesty, responsibility, friendship, respect, and kindness - values we hold dear at Toorak Primary School. Teachers actively observe and acknowledge students who demonstrate these values in their everyday actions, whether it's helping a peer, showing respect to staff, or being responsible for their learning.

I am proud to share some examples I have observed of how our token system is making a difference at Toorak Primary School:

Honesty: A student was praised for owning up to a mistake and taking responsibility for their actions, demonstrating honesty and integrity.

Responsibility: Another student consistently showed responsibility by completing their homework on time and ensuring their classroom materials were organized and tidy.

Friendship: We celebrated a group of students who went out of their way to include a new student in their activities, demonstrating kindness and friendship.

Respect: A student was recognised for consistently showing respect to their classmates and teachers by actively listening and valuing others' opinions.

Kindness: Lastly, we applauded a student who showed kindness by helping a classmate who was struggling with their work, embodying the spirit of compassion and empathy.

These examples showcase the positive impact of our token system in reinforcing our school values and promoting a culture of kindness and inclusion. I encourage all families to continue reinforcing these values at home, as it truly takes a village to nurture well-rounded and compassionate individuals.

I would like to extend a big thank you to our dedicated teachers who play a pivotal role in administering our token system and providing students with immediate feedback for their positive behaviour. Additionally thank you for your creativity in devising exciting rewards for students who receive tokens. Your efforts in making the rewards engaging and motivating contribute significantly to the success of our TPS program, fostering a culture where students are inspired to uphold our school values.

Warm regards,

Mark Walsh
