Math and money

Students learnt about Australian money. We did simple additive tasks with coins and notes. Students engaged in a range of Maths tasks, such as coin rubbing to create a picture with the Australian coins. Then adding up the values of the coins to calculate how much their picture “worth”.

Students have also engaged in open-ended Maths task, such as imagining they have $20 to spend in a shop, and they come up with a range of products they can buy using the amount given. Students have used a range of strategies to solve the problem, some drew a table, some wrote number sentences and some drew diagrams to help them visualise the problem.

Writing

Students learnt to use adjectives to make their writing engaging. We read a range of mentor texts such as 'The Gruffalo' and 'Go Away Big Green Monster' to understand how important adjectives are in our writing.
