Photographing, Filming, and Recording Students Policy
Updated May 2024
Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy [updated May 2024] (available on the North Melbourne Primary School website) describes how we will collect and use photographs, video and recordings (images) of students. The policy also explains when parent/carer consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn. This policy has recently been updated by the Department of Education and reflects changes to how we collect consent for student photography.
From Term 3 2024:
Additionally, we ask that any parents/carers or other members of our school community photographing, filming or recording students at school events (e.g. concerts, sports events etc) do so in a respectful and safe manner and that images of students are not publicly posted (e.g. to a social media account) without the permission of the relevant parent/carer.
Once this updated consent form is published on your Compass portal (via your personal login), we ask that all parents/ carers complete the form to reflect their preferences aligning with the various uses of photography and filming, as stated on the form. These are also outlined in the updated policy.
The previous photography consent form (completed by families earlier this year) will remain valid for the remainder of the 2024 school year.
Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice.
If you have any concerns about the use of photographs in our school, for example, due to safety or cultural reasons, please contact North Melbourne Primary School on North.Melbourne.PS@education.vic.gov.au
