Mambourin Campus

Breaking of Ground Ceremony

It’s not often that students and staff have the opportunity to attend a ‘Breaking of Ground’ ceremony for a new campus. This opportunity was given to our Year 2 students who had the privilege to be part of a very special occasion for our new Mambourin Campus. Their positive participation showed not only enthusiasm for the occasion, but demonstrated the College Value of Respect with the way they sat, listened and collaborated on the occasion.

This ‘Breaking of Ground’ ceremony was the formal commencement to the building of the Mambourin Campus. The College Principal, Mrs Fiona McAuliffe, along with local and government representatives as well as special guests were present for the occasion. We are confident that this moment in time will be fondly remembered in years to come by the Year 2 students. Exciting times ahead!

Scienceworks Planetarium Excursion

The Year 2E Scienceworks excursion was an absolute ‘blast-off’!

Students were not just reading and learning about different inventions; they were getting their hands on them – imagine that! And Mars…forget only looking at books about the planet – students explored the red planet with a mind-blowing movie that felt like they were actually there! Additionally, they weren't just learning about constellations from two-dimensional charts – they were using a real-time view to navigate the night sky! Science just went from interesting to incredible, and their brains are now buzzing with questions about the universe! This exciting and exploratory trip definitely launched the student’s curiosity into hyperdrive, and they can't wait to dive deeper and learn even more throughout this term. Prepare for science superstars in the making!

Whilst enjoying this amazing excursion, it needs to be noted that the respectful nature and display of behaviours demonstrated by our students was not only noted but is a credit to who they are!

Furnishing Mambourin classrooms!

As we continue planning for the new Mambourin campus, we are investigating furniture options for classrooms. Currently, we are trialing different types of furniture, and exploring different companies and products in two classrooms. This week the reps from the furniture companies visited us and they answered questions from the students, the teachers and the leadership team about their products’ unique qualities and the design of the furniture in our rooms. This has helped us to learn about furniture quality and design, understand industry patterns, and how furniture can support teaching and learning.

The most exciting aspect of the visits was the confident and thoughtful way our children interacted with the reps as they visited the classrooms. We all listened to the students’ reflections and opinions. The Year 2 children explained how much they liked the option of working on the small tables with a cushion, and the Prep children explained that they liked the option of using a tabletop as a whiteboard. In the same way, children were able to explain why they disliked a chair design, or that they preferred different shaped cushions. We were impressed the children could be reflective in this way and excited that they were confident to share their perspectives with visitors to the room. How the children respond to the furniture helps us support their learning and gives them a sense of ownership and a stake in the new Mambourin Campus. We are all excited to be thinking about and planning for the designs inside of the classrooms.
