Respectful Relationships

As a College, understanding God's love for us and how that permeates in our relationships with others is at the heart of who we are. Our God teaches us to love each other as he has loved us. What does this love look like? How does that relate to respectful relationships?

1 Corinthians 13, the chapter of love, gives us great insight into how we should show love and respect to one another:

  • Be patient with one another
  • Be kind to one another
  • Do not envy others
  • Do not be boastful of yourself or be too proud to admit your own wrongdoing
  • Do not be rude or self-seeking
  • Do not be easily angered, nor keep a record of wrongs.

If we apply these principles to all our relationships and always seek to see God's goodness in others, then we can avoid unnecessary hurt and pain. And most importantly, we can seek God's forgiveness and extend that forgiveness to others we are not only showing respect but are demonstrating God's love to others.

Wyndham Youth Civic Participation Project

I've often spoken about the importance of growing the whole student, which means engaging in learning outside of the traditional school environment. The Wyndham area often has many wonderful opportunities for the youth of this area to engage in community projects and civic learning. One such activity is the Wyndham Youth Civic Participation Project.

If you are a Secondary school Legal Studies or Business Management student, you may be interested in this project. The project (aimed at 18-25 year olds) is for Wyndham’s aspiring lawyers, policymakers and community leaders who would like to see behind the curtain of Local, State and Federal politics and government. Participants will have to opportunity to speak with Councillors, senior public servants, and council staff members, about their responsibilities in government. Along with completing the program with like-minded young people, participants will visit Wyndham City Council, spend a day at Parliament House Victoria and travel to Canberra for a 4-day tour, visiting Parliament House, Museum of Australian Democracy, High Court of Australia, and the Australian War Museum. The program is delivered from July until September.

Applications are now open and will close 11 June 2024. Limited spots available.

Zero Tolerance for Bullying and Harassment

Sadly, we live in a world where cyberbullying and harassment are all too common, and often make their way into school environments.

Good News Lutheran College does not tolerate any attitudes or behaviours which result in harassment of other people, and it will endeavour to provide an orderly and secure environment in which all people are able to achieve their best without interference from others. In fact, part of the Christian ethos of our College is a commitment to encourage a climate of love and care for each other.

The only way that issues of harassment or bullying can be fully addressed is if everyone - School, students and parents - works together to call out the behaviour and to develop a positive culture of looking out for each other. If your child is involved in any issues of harassment or bullying we ask you to contact the relevant Assistant Head of Years and myself so the matter can be addressed.

Math Homework Club

Math homework club is back!

It will be running every Thursday from 3.30pm-4.30pm in SY101, unless notified otherwise.

This is an after-school session where you can bring any mathematics work that you have from class or any extended work that you would like to complete. It is not a time to socialise and chat, but to grow your mathematics skills. There will be two math teachers there to help you with any questions, ranging from Year 7 Mathematics to Year 12 Math Methods.

Parents, if you would like your child to attend, please send me an email advising that your child will be present for that date and that they will be picked up at 4.30pm or making their own way home at that time.

If there are any further questions or concerns, please contact me: ahmadr@goodnews.vic.edu.au

Year 9 Community Project: A Journey Takes Shape

We are excited to share updates on the Year 9 Community Project. Recently, our students have been paired with mentors. These first official meetings signify the start of a collaborative and potentially transformative journey. Mentors will guide students in refining their ideas, setting realistic goals, and developing skills that extend beyond academic learning. It's an enriching process where our students advance their projects and build meaningful relationships.

Watching these projects take form clearly demonstrates our students' dedication and creativity as they begin to make a tangible impact on their chosen community. We look forward to seeing their continued progress and the innovative solutions they bring to the challenges they have decided to address.
