School Operations

Mrs Shannon Allen

You Are Invited . . .

There are some fantastic opportunities this term for our St George’s families to interact with our school community. We always love to welcome parents, guardians and carers into the school, whether for formal events, carnivals or meetings.

In the next two weeks we are hosting several events where we are excitedly opening up St George’s to our families.

Afternoon Tea and Chatter

Next Wednesday, 1 May, we have the first Afternoon Tea and Chatter event for St George’s parents with an academic focus, providing an opportunity to meet our Heads of Learning Area in Mathematics, English, Science and Humanities as well as the Principal and Senior Executive Team. This takes place from 3pm to 4pm on Level 4. All parents are welcome.

Interhouse Cross Country

The following day, Thursday 2 May, is our Interhouse Cross Country event at Kings Park. We will be celebrating this as a whole school, rather than competing in individual year groups this year, and it would be lovely to see families joining us to add to the cheer and support for our runners.

Lincoln Festivities

In Term 2, our focus House is Lincoln, starting with the Lincoln Parent Sundowner on the evening of Thursday, 2 May, and culminating with the Lincoln House Charity Day at the end of term. Thank you to the Lincoln families who have confirmed their attendance for this event. We look forward to welcoming you to Level 4 to celebrate all things Lincoln, commencing at 6pm.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Wednesday, 8 May, sees us hosting our first round of Parent Teacher Interviews for Year 8 to 11 students, here at 50 William Street. Whilst slightly reminiscent of speed dating, this is a valued opportunity for teachers and parents to build the strong relationships that we value so much at St George’s.

Year 13 Breakfast

Finally, to round off the events of the next fortnight, we are very excited to be welcoming back the Class of 2023 for the Year 13 Breakfast on Friday, 10 May. This is a highly anticipated event for both our staff and ex-students, who are always so delighted to come back to school after dipping their toes in the “real world” of university, TAFE, College life or the work force.

WA Student Assistance Payment

Recently the WA State Government announced the introduction of cost-of-living support to WA families. The initiative is aimed to support families with school-aged children. The new WA Student Assistance will provide parents and carers with a $250 payment for each secondary student, and $150 for each primary school student or kindergartener.

To access this payment, families will need to register through the ServiceWA App from the start of Term 2 (15 April). This will require your child’s WA Student Number, which can be found on the front cover of our St George’s school reports and on a student’s Smartrider.

Further information from the WA State Government, about this initiative, can be found at education.wa.edu.au/wasap
