Congratulations to the following Year 9 and 10 students who recently represented St George’s at the Have Sum Fun Maths competition.
The dedication and hard work of our students were truly commendable, resulting in one of our teams securing a remarkable third place in the competition. Moreover, both of our teams demonstrated exceptional performance in the food category. These students were exceptional, and it was such a delightful night.

On Tuesday night, our Novice Debating Team was admirably represented by Issac O’Neil, Jenna Arnold and Elisa Flynn debating against the proposition that “This house would abolish compulsory voting in Australia’’, defeating Shenton College. Our team was impressive, had prepared thoroughly for the debate and were able to present a compelling argument in favour of our democratic responsibilities. I, for one, was impressed by the quality of their argument. The night provided us with a glimmer of what this young team will achieve, with more guidance and experience. I would particularly like to single out Jenna Arnold who had thoroughly prepared and rehearsed the argument that she sought to deliver for her first debate.
While our Junior Team - Eli Holbeach, Cooper Grant and Lawson Forester - were beaten, on the night, they certainly were not defeated. Our Junior Team argued against the motion that “This house would give local governments in Australia more powers e.g. education and curriculum, roads and infrastructure”, arguing for the benefits of centralised governance, and casting doubt on the reliability of corruptible local groups. Isabelle was ill on the evening and had to hand her speech over to Eli to deliver. Isabelle’s speech was compellingly researched and composed; it virtually rang off the page. Eli is to be congratulated for the outstanding team and school spirit that they demonstrated by volunteering to step into this debate at what was “literally” the very last minute.
Well done Juniors, you hustled impressively.

Curricular Dance students had the pleasure of attending the exquisite ballet performance of "La Bayadère: The Temple Dancer" at His Majesty's Theatre. It was an evening filled with graceful movements, captivating storytelling, and an undeniable display of professionalism from our students.
What truly stood out, however, was the exceptional behaviour and professionalism of our students throughout the performance. From the hushed whispers of excitement during the overture, the thunderous gasps at the end of Act 1 and the applause at the finale, our students were a shining example of respect and appreciation for the arts.
As the story of Nikiya, the temple dancer, and her tragic love unfolded, our students were enraptured. Through the skilful choreography and evocative music, our students were transported to the opulent palaces and mystical temples of ancient India in 1855.
After the performance, it was heart warming to hear our students discuss their favourite moments and characters from the ballet. We are immensely proud of our students for their impeccable behaviour and their evident enjoyment of this cultural experience. It is through opportunities like these that we can foster a deep appreciation for the arts and inspire a lifelong love of dance and performance.
We look forward to future cultural outings and the continued growth of our students as artists and individuals.
