NUMERACY

NUMBER GOALS

Number goals are up and running in all classrooms, so please ask your child what their goal is and assist them in practising this goal each day.  It is important to remember that the skills that they are practising are to gain fluency and automaticity in this area, so we are looking for students to be able to automatically recall the facts rather than work them out.

MATHS GROUPS AND INITIATIVES

There are many mathematics initiatives taking place around the school at the moment. 

INTERVENTION - Intervention groups are being taken by our amazing LSOs to assist those finding some mathematics concepts challenging. 

GMG- We also have GMG (Girls Mindset Group) taking place to grow a positive maths mindset with some of our senior girls who are working with me (Mrs Daly) each week. 

EXPLORER - All of the students in Grade 3/4 are involved in a problem-solving program run by Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO). They have an Explorer session each week in class where they work on developing their problem-solving skills in collaborative teams. They then put these skills to the test every six weeks with a Maths Explorer Test provided by APSMO. 

OLYMPIAD - Olympiad is a problem-solving program also run by APSMO that runs from Years 4-6 as an extension program to challenge our high-achieving students in mathematics. The students are involved in weekly problem-solving sessions with Mr K and/or myself.  Every six weeks they then participate in an Olympiad provided by APSMO. At the end of the year students receive awards based on their performance throughout the year.
