FAITH MATTERS

MRS ALISON WRIGHT - DIRECTOR OF FAITH & MISSION

CESH Mass

What a lovely celebration to end Catholic Education Week with our combined Mass at St Mary’s Primary School last Friday. Between both schools, our numbers are well more than 1000 students, and to have them all together in one venue was quite amazing to see - Catholic Education in Swan Hill is certainly alive and well!

Although it takes an enormous amount of organisation, it is so important this tradition continues. We should always take the opportunity to celebrate our Catholic identity. This is part of our mission statement, here at St Mary MacKillop College.

My sincere thanks to those who helped organise the Mass and BBQ.

Vinnies Youth

This term will see the establishment of a Vinnies Youth team at school. The St Vincent de Paul Society offers young people the opportunity to volunteer, learn and lead while making a difference in their community. By getting involved, students will join hundreds of school and youth groups across Australia working alongside Vinnies to grow the next generation of social justice advocates. They also are supporting the direct work Vinnies does every day to help people in our community who need it most.

Ration Challenge

Our school will be taking part in The Ration Challenge again this year. Students (and staff) are encouraged to sign up for this opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of a refugee for either three or five days. Currently, there are historical levels of displacement for people in our world. Being a part of this challenge develops empathy for others and empowers students to make a difference.

The challenge runs from June 17-21 (Week 10 of this term).

Mother’s Day Prayer

God, who is unconditional love,

You created us out of love and you promised to never forget us.

May all mothers be inspired and strengthened in their care for their children and dedication to their role of motherhood.

We pray through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

A very happy Mother’s Day for all mothers in our community!
