Dear St Brigid’s Families and Friends,
Can you believe that we are in Week 9? We only have 11 days left of school for our students - how this year has flown!
I would like to take this opportunity to inform our school community of the staffing changes for 2023.
Staff Farewelling St Brigid's
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that the following staff will not be returning to St Brigid’s next year:
Belinda Wendt who has decided to retire. She will be spending her time travelling and creating a home in their new house.
Libby Young who is also retiring from teaching. She is looking at having a career change and working within the NDIS field.
Kate Sleeth’s contract concludes with us at the end of this year.
Kate Yass’ contract concludes with us at the end of this year.
I wish them all the very best in their new ventures and I know they will keep in touch with us.
It is with much excitement that we welcome 3 new staff members to our St Brigid’s community:
Christine Thredgold who will be taking on the role of Learning Diversity and Welbeing Leader. Christine comes from Our Lady of Assumption, Cheltenham.
Yasmin Allaf will return to full time teaching at St Brigid’s after her time off this year.
Erin McGeoch will be working two days a week as an Educational Support Officer.
We look forward to working with them in 2024.
It has come to that time of the year where some of our students' school shoes are showing significant wear and tear. I totally understand that it is not practical to buy new ones at this late stage of the year, however, I do ask that a note be sent to the classroom teacher to let them know.
Our bi-annual Colour Fun Run is happening tomorrow! Children are asked to wear old clothes as they will get stained by the powdered paint (First hand experience 2 years ago!) If your child is happy to be ‘painted’ they must wear a white tshirt. If they do not want to be ‘painted’ please get them to wear a black t-shirt.
I suggest you bring a towel to school for them to sit on in the car when you pick them up.
Our Year 4 campers return home tonight. Jodie and I went and had dinner with them last night and they have had such a wonderful time with their Year 4 friends and teachers.
I have to say how exceptionally proud Ange, Annemarie, Hannah and Glenn were of the children and how they represented the school. They were so respectful to not only us, but to all the places they visited.
We start our Annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas Food Drive on Monday 4th December. Please remember to bring in your food donations so we can help and support the families in need in the Mordialloc area.
Some suggested donations are:
Foundation - toiletries - shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste, tooth brushes, nappies, deodorant
Year 1/2 - chocolates and lollies for christmas, pantry staples
Year 3/4 - tinned fruit, sweet and savoury Biscuits, pantry staples
Year 5/6 - tea bags, coffee, milo, sugar, pantry staples
Or anything that you could use on a Christmas table - christmas pudding, mince pies, serviettes, bon bons. Please check the 'use by' date on all items donated.
Friday 8th December is the last day to bring your food items. That day you will be able to wear casual clothes, as it is the same day as our Christmas Fun Afternoon so remember to wear a splash of Christmas! Remember that you must wear closed toe shoes eg: runners.
We are currently finalising Semester 2 Student Reports. If you have changed your email address since June can you please email acochrane@sbmord.catholic.edu.au with your updated details with your child's name and class.
This year we are holding our annual Christmas Market and Christmas Carol night on Friday 8th December. Our Market will run from 3:00pm until 4.30pm. Our Nativity play and Christmas Carols will commence at 5:00pm. The children have been practicing their singing in Performing Arts with Mrs Tracey and the Foundation children have been practicing their acting with Mrs Tracey.
Families are welcome to bring a picnic (and a chair or rug) to enjoy during our Carols and we will also have sausages in bread $2.50 and choc tops $ 5.00 for sale - Cash Only.
Students may wear their Christmas Concert Clothes to school on Friday 8th December (closed toe shoes please).
Kris Kringle is a tradition that occurs in many places. In the past, students purchase a small gift ($5.00) for another student in their class or level. We will not be participating in this tradition this year.
Instead we ask that families support COTS (Christmas on the Streets) by donating $5.00 per family to support this initiative set up by a young 26 year old lady named Rosa. COT'sve supports the homeless in Melbourne. Rosa came and spoke to our Year 5/6 students, as well as our staff about how this charity came about and our students were very keen to do something to support this charity.
We ask that families send in their $5.00 donation by Monday 12 December. This will give us the opportunity to send the donation through to COTS.
As we approach a very busy end to Term 4, I would like to take this opportunity to remind families of important upcoming dates on the next page.
Take care and stay safe.
Yours in partnership
