STUDENT PETITION OUTCOME
DEAN PFITZNER
On Wednesday afternoon I received a petition from the Year 10 students about the class uniform shorts/pants asking for consideration to continue to wear the white moleskins as part of their uniform for the remainder of their time at the College. I must commend the student body for the appropriate way they went about expressing their views and opinions and seeking consideration.
At Thursday lunchtime I addressed all students who were onsite in response to the matter. I acknowledged receipt of their query and praised them for how they went about raising this. I indicated their view was considered but also needed to provide them with background information regarding the College class uniform. The students were mature, receptive and understanding of the reasons behind the current uniform, the reason for the change and the phasing out period.
During 2022 the College was advised by the uniform suppliers that the class shorts were being discontinued immediately. This required a change for both the class shorts and pants, so that a matching style could be maintained in providing a positive image when students were wearing both the shorts and pants as part of their school activities. Feedback received from previous students and parents is that a female style in the class uniform would be favourable.
The current items were chosen due to their colour, comfort, style, male and female cuts, longevity of supply and cost and were passed by the College Board at the end of 2022. The cost of the new items is almost half that of the old ones.
We had a phasing-out period of 12 months, which means;
A reminder to parents/carers not to purchase any second-hand uniforms that are of the old style class shorts and pants as these will not be acceptable from the beginning of 2024.
Thankyou in advance for your support to the adherence of our uniform requirements.
