Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program 2024

Please read the following letter from Ms Tiziana Scimone about the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program for 2024.

3/4 Sovereign Hill Camp

 I jumped out of bed. I was so excited to  get to school all I had to do was put my pillow in my bag and my toothbrush. I was ready to go but I could not fit my pillow into my bag so my mum helped me and I wheeled my bag to the door . let's go yell mum. I slammed my foot on the outside of the front gate. When we got to school we put our bags in a long line with our bags  and played till the bus came . it was meant to come at 9:00am but it did not came so we waited till 9:15am and it still did not come.finally it came at 9:30am which was 30  minutes past the time.  3/4wj walked out the gate and gave their bags to the driver.  He put  the bags under the bus .I gave the man my bag then jumped onto that bus and picked out a seat  for Heidi and myself to sit on. I picked out the 3rd row but then when Heidi  came in she said “ can I sit on the window and I said yep “ but then I said do you want to sit in the 2nd row because no one is sitting there  so we can….  so cool !

When we were all in the bus and ready to go the bus started and we were off to ballarat.  when we got there we waited by a fence and when we saw our bags we went to get them. Then we wheeled them over to the other side then put our bags in a room called the  dining room. We got our day bags and went to a grassy land and ate our lunch which we bought from home.

 After that we went back to the dining room and reapplied sun cream and went to a mine. When we got there Mrs Witchell split us into groups of 10 to go in the mine. The first group went in and the rest of us waited outside. The man who let us in told us a little bit about the gold rush. When the last group  was waiting the man told us a trick about how to find gold and this is the trick. You get a  shovel and  put it in your pan and start washing it out and that is the easiest way to find gold. After that mine we went panning for gold but I did not find any then we went to watch  them make lollies which was very repetitive but got to taste them. I did not like them and then we went to  afternoon tea, which was chocolate muffins which were  not too bad at all.  We played around on the ship, then we went back to the dining hall and went to our cabins. in my cabin  I had Stella, Esther,Aria Annabelle   we picked our beds and then mucked around until we were told to go to the and play with the balls then we went to dinner. I loved dinner. It was the best and it was pasta then we went to have showers and went to bed !! 

In the morning we went to breakfast. I had toast with jam on top and then we went to  a room where this man showed us things that they used in the olden days. We got into groups and  got a machine from a long time ago. My group had a cream whipper which  we thought was a washing machine. After that we went to have morning tea which  was scrolls. I had a vegemite one and we played around. Then we went to the main street and went to some of the shops. Then we went candle making and I learnt that it is made out of animal fat. Then we went and had lunch. It was from the Hope Bakery then we went gold panning and I found 17 pieces. Then we were told we were going back to the cabins. When we got back to our cabins we had 5 mins to get ready for…The  mine tour 

When we were walking there we had to run because there were kids watching it. They were from our school so we ran and they were  showing us a gun fire and it was so loud. Then we went to a mine and we got in a cart and it went down. It was pitch black for 90 secs and  it was very hard 

After that we went to dinner and at dinner we had roast chicken and for dessert we had chocolate mousse.  When we got back we had showers and went to bed.

Mrs Witchell came in to check that we were packing and then we went to breakfast where I had toast and an apple. After that we went to a room where we got to dress people up like they were gold panning  and then we went for morning tea which was scrolls  but I did not feel like one so I did not have one 

Then we went back to the dinning hall and got our bags and wheeled them to the bus, got on and then we were back at school in no time.

On Monday the 3/4s went to the best ever Sovereign Hill Camp. Everybody was a bit nervous  but so excited. The bus came and every one was so happy we hopped on and then we were off. I was sitting next to my best friend on the bus and I was on the window side. We got off and collected our luggage. Our rooms were not ready yet so we dropped our luggage off at another big room. Then we went on a mine tour and we got split up into 4 groups and each group went in. It was our turn to go into the mine. It was very fun. We also did some gold mining but I did not have much luck. But my favourite part of the day was when we went to buy lollies from the lolly shop. I bought Raspberry drops then it was time for dinner.  After dinner we went to the sound and light show. For some bits we were inside and some parts we were outside. We went to bed at 10 but that was a bit late for me because I usually go to bed at 9! But the bad thing was that I only got an hour and a half of sleep.   

On the second day we did some of the same things but we went to the bakery for lunch which was awesome.  But I loved watching the lolly making, we even got to taste the lollies that the man made! They were very yummy. A bit later it was time for dinner. We had it at the same place that we had breakfast this morning and the same place that we had dinner last night. Tonight we had roast chicken that was pretty good. Now it was time for the pantomime that was a cool show that was about a pirate named black beard! Then we went off to bed and we fell straight asleep.

The next day my cabin had a little bit of a sleep in so we had to rush to pack our bags. We were the last group to finish packing. We put our bags in a room and we went to do some more shopping and stuff. After that we had a choice to do some more shopping , go to the cabin or do some more gold panning. I chose to do some more gold panning. This time I was pretty lucky because I got ten little spots of gold!

After that we went on another mine tour but this one was a bit more scary than the other one. We went in on a big carriage and it was pitch black for 90 seconds. When we were in, the man took us on a tour and it was very cool. We came back up and then it was time to leave camp. We got our luggage and then the bus came and we put our luggage in the bus and then we were off. I was sitting next to Stella and then we got off the bus back to school and then we went home.
