Leumeah P&C Association

The Leumeah Public School P&C would like to thank the community for all of your support for our endeavours in 2023.

We wish you all a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday period and look forward to seeing you all in 2024.

On that note, I'd like to share some of my speech I delivered to our new Kindergarten parents at orientation recently:

In the last few years we have donated $115,000 to LPS. The donated funds have enabled LPS to:

-finally deliver on our major goal of installing air conditioning to all classrooms through the cool the school program.

-replace the ground markings around the school - you can see some just outside the hall here.

-create an outdoor learning and breakfast club area just outside the hall here with shade sails to protect the children from the sun.

-create another outdoor learning space two blocks over, complimenting the yarning circle.

-install shade sails over the playgrounds to protect the children from the sun.

-funds to purchase items for extra-curricular groups.

-funds to purchase decodable readers for kindergarten students. And can I just say I didn’t know what they were either when Mrs Hill brought the request to P&C. I thought it was a device. You’ll become acquainted with them next year - but they are books with repetitive sounds like dog, hog, bog, cog etc.

Every year:

-We donate wide brim hats to Kindergarten students. You’ll receive these at your child’s best start assessment.

-We donate the Year 6 caps to Year 6 students.

-We donate the cost of students in Year 6 attending a leadership conference.

-We donate $100 to each student that makes it to State level at sporting events.

-We run the Scholastic Book Club. Proceeds from the sales go directly to the Library to purchase books for the library.

-Sponsor the trophy’s handed out at the Striving for Excellence presentation assemblies and scholastic gift vouchers.

Everyone likes to be goal driven. The school is researching new projects that we can contribute towards and we will be able to update you all next year.

Another aspect of the P&C is to provide a parent perspective and feedback on issues and projects that the school are looking to implement. This year alone, we have provided feedback on the reward and recognition of student learning, the school uniform and the positive behaviour system and other ad hoc issues.

As a result of the past few years of lockdowns and isolation, we haven’t been able to spread the message and engage parents to come along to meetings and get involved.  We are a very small group of parents, all of which work so our daytime availability is limited. At our last meeting, we only had five parents attend. The P&C relies on new faces, fresh energy and new ideas. There is a lot that we would like to do but without engagement from parents and carers we are unable to meet the requirements to pursue all the things that we would like to do. We need people power.  What type of people do we need? Everyone!  Maybe you have some administrative skills or some basic excel skills to fill an Exec role such as Secretary or Treasurer. Generally we need people that are willing to share their opinions on things happening at LPS, and that are willing to donate their time to plan and run P&C events.

Best wishes to all,

Tracey Oates

President
