Aerobics Nationals 

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of eight of our students who recently competed at the 2026 National Championships on the Sunshine Coast.

Our students represented Mornington Secondary College with great pride. Dynamite, our duo of Mya and Makena, achieved an outstanding 2nd place and silver medal in their first year competing together. Our Nova team also produced an exceptional performance, achieving a personal best score of 93.35 and finishing 5th in Australia.

It would be remiss of us not to acknowledge our fabulous coaching team, MSC graduate and current staff member Indie Jowett and MSC graduate Elise Bristow, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to develop and support our teams.

We are incredibly proud of all eight students and congratulate them on an outstanding national campaign. What an achievement!

Bayside Peninsula Assistant Principal Network

Mornington Secondary College has been selected to host the 2026 meetings of the recently revived Bayside Peninsula Assistant Principal Network, with our first meeting taking place this week.

It was fantastic to welcome leaders from across the region to our College. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for school leaders to share ideas, learn from one another and work together on the common challenges facing education.

We look forward to hosting further meetings throughout the year and strengthening our connections with schools across the Bayside Peninsula.

Year 10 Work Experience

A reminder that our Year 10 students will undertake Work Experience from Monday 14 September to Friday 18 September as part of their educational and careers program. During this week, regular Year 10 classes will not operate, with the exception of the Pre-Senior class, which will continue with their normal program.

Work Experience is an important opportunity for our students to experience the world of work, explore potential career pathways and develop valuable employability skills. It also helps students make meaningful connections between what they learn at school and the opportunities available to them beyond school.

We wish all of our Year 10 students well as they prepare for this exciting opportunity, and thank Fiona Cornwall and our Careers and Pathways team for the significant work involved in coordinating the program.

Market Day

On Thursday the 27th of August our Year 12 VCE VM Personal Development students successfully planned, organised, and delivered an incredible Market Day.

Each student took responsibility for planning and implementing a stall of their choice, selling a wonderful range of delicious homemade products and treats to our school community. From sweet treats to a delicious BBQ, games, raffles, drinks and more, the students demonstrated fantastic creativity, teamwork, organisation, and entrepreneurial skills throughout the entire process.

The whole school embraced Market Day, with students and staff enjoying the atmosphere, visiting the stalls, and sampling lots of delicious treats. It was wonderful to see the school community come together to support our Year 12 students and enjoy the event.

A special thank you goes to the students local communities, who showed incredible generosity by donating products, ingredients, prizes, and other resources to support the event. Their generosity played a huge part in making Market Day such a success.

Most importantly, the students were working towards making a positive difference in their wider community. All proceeds from Market Day will be donated to Speak & Share, supporting the important work they do within our community.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their commitment, enthusiasm, and hard work. They have shown that with great teamwork, determination, and community support, they can turn an idea into an event that makes a real difference.

Aerobics Nationals

On Sunday the 30th of August, eight Mornington Secondary College's students travelled to the Sunshine Coast to compete at the 2026 TFT National Championships.

I am excited to announce that our duo, Dynamite, placed 2nd while our team, Nova, finished 5th!! This is a huge achievement for both teams, competing against the best schools and clubs from across the country.

DuoDynamite blew us away with their energetic performance, scoring an impressive 77.30 to secure the national silver medal. They finished just 2.5 points behind the trio who took out 1st place and even finished ahead of the two Victorian duos who had placed above them at States! Mya and Makena entered 2026 having never competed as a duo and have finished the year as national silver medallists! We could not be prouder of the hard work, commitment and dedication these two students have shown, not only this year but throughout their 4–5 years as members of the squad. We cannot wait to see what is in store for them next year!

Team Nova delivered an incredible personal-best performance, scoring a whopping 93.35 to finish 5th in the country. The Stage 2 section was fiercely competitive this year, with seven teams scoring over 90, while the team that placed 1st achieved an incredible 99.5 (a first in aerobics history!). To score 93.35 in such a competitive field is an outstanding achievement for Nova. While Anna Begley (Year 12) and Makena Baard (Year 10) took the National stage for their third and second time respectively, it was a first nationals experience for Paula Arena (Year 9), Charlotte Davies (Year 9), Phoebe Harris (Year 10), Lulu Ramalinga (Year 10) and Tilly Jensen (Year 10). What an amazing way to make their Nationals debut! They have certainly set the bar high for the years to come.

A huge thank you to the families who travelled to the Sunshine Coast to support our students. From early training drop-offs and long competition days to interstate travel and fundraising efforts, your commitment has been incredible. We simply could not have made it this far without your support.

Finally, a special thank you to Nick Evans, who accompanied our squad at the National Championships for the third-year running, and to Elise Bristow, our first-year coach and 2025 graduate, who attended her first Nationals as a coach. I'm very grateful for your support this year.

While we continue to celebrate the achievements of our amazing 2026 Squad, we are already looking ahead to 2027!

Year 9 Speak & Share

This week we were fortunate enough to have Lachie Gill and Abbey Cooke from Speak & Share come out to MSC and present their Interactive Workshop to all Year 9 students. The focus of the session was to explore identity, strengthen communication and build students confidence to support mental health.

Over the course of an hour, students engaged in team-based challenges, small group ‘dinner dates’ and created their own sunflower of change. All of the activities were designed to support students to examine the factors that support their identity, and how these factors influence their mental health and self-esteem. They also aimed to support students to appreciate the power of differences, and how it helps foster inclusion, positive relationships and a sense of belonging.

Students who participated in the program commented on how they had enjoyed the dinner date activity as it allowed them to open and share with friends parts of themselves they don’t normally talk about, allowing them to get to know their friends on a deeper level. Another student said that the sunflower of change activity allowed them to remember that there are people out there that love them and support them.

Year 11 OES: Tree Planting Mornington Environment Association

Our Year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class recently headed down to Mills Beach for a hands-on community conservation day, partnering with the Friends of Tanti Creek and the Mornington Environment Association (MEA).

The students rolled up their sleeves to tackle invasive weed removal and planted native vegetation to help protect and restore our local coastal ecosystem. Working alongside local community experts gave the class a fantastic opportunity to see real-world environmental management in action right on our doorstep.

Our students were absolutely outstanding throughout the day. Their enthusiasm, hard work, and positive attitude were on full display, and the feedback from the community groups was overwhelmingly positive. They demonstrated incredible initiative and showed genuine pride in caring for our local environment.

A huge congratulations to all the Year 11s involved for their fantastic effort and for representing our school so brilliantly. You should be very proud of the lasting impact you've made at Mills Beach!

Interschool Sport: Year 8

Year 8 Boys Futsal

On Wednesday 2nd September the Year 8 Boys Futsal competition was held in our school stadium, with all six Southern Peninsula Division (SPD) schools represented. 

Our boys team got out to a flying start, winning:

• 11-0 against Somerville 
• 12-1 against Western Port
• 5-1 against Mt Eliza

The next game was the battle of the titans; Mornington v Dromana! Both teams were undefeated and the winner of that match determined the winner of the competition.

The match was very exciting with both teams demonstrating high levels of intensity and skill. When the final whistle sounded the scores were locked at 2-2, creating a drawn result. Dromana finished the day as SPD Futsal Champions on countback, with our team placing 2nd.

Our boys may get a second chance at progressing to play at the Southern Metropolitan Region finals as our school is hosting the competition and we may get a wild card into the draw.

A special thank you goes to our Year 9 and 10 students Noah Sheen, Harvey Austin and Nick Tihala who did an outstanding job refereeing all the games throughout the day. Their commitment and willingness to support the competition were greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank Lucian White-Alker, Dylan McCay, Kyen Green and Caiden Jordan for scoring all the matches. 

Congratulations to all our Intermediate Boys Futsal players on a fantastic day of competition. We are very proud of the sportsmanship, effort and skill displayed by the team.

Year 8 Girls Futsal

Our Year 8 girls competed with vigour and determination on what was a hard-fought round robin day of interschool girls futsal. They came away with one win against Dromana and a loss to Mt Eliza, finishing second overall on the day. As always, the girls represented the school with pride, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and teamwork in every match they played. Thank you to Aida-Grace and Ellie, who captain-coached for the day as well.

Year 8 Boys Basketball

On Wednesday fifteen Year 8 boys represented Mornington Secondary College, competing across both an A Team and B Team in the Year 8 Boys Basketball Competition.

The A Team had an outstanding day, winning their first four games against Somerville, Western Port, Mt Eliza and Rosebud, to progress through to the final. The boys showed excellent teamwork, determination and skill throughout the competition. Unfortunately, they were defeated by Dromana 33–17 in the final, finishing the day as runners-up.

Standout performers for the A Team were Xavier Motherwell, Blake Scott, Antonio Barbieri and Lachlan Waterhouse, who all made valuable contributions throughout the day.

The B Team also competed strongly, facing Dromana, Somerville and Western Port. After losses to Dromana and Somerville, the boys bounced back impressively in their final game against Western Port. They produced a dominant performance, winning 38–4 to claim third place.

The B Team's best players on the day were Kade Parsons, Baylan Bradshaw and Jackson Edwards, who were instrumental in helping the team finish the competition on a high.

Year 8 Girls Basketball

Wednesday saw our Year 8 girls head to Rosebud to compete in interschool basketball.

Our A team, coached by Lacey Rattue and Grace O’Shea, hit the court in the first round to take out a tight victory over Dromana A. The girls, with only 5 players (no subs), took out the day with 4/4 wins, their biggest win on the day was 77-0. They will move on to SMR at the end of October.

Our B team, coached by Isabel Mimmo and Lucinda Bradshaw, started off against Rosebud, going down by 10 points. They then rallied to win their second game by 20 points, with only four girls for the final 5 minutes of the game. Their final game of the day saw them go down to Dromana in a close fought battle.

I am extremely proud of all the girls who played today. After a few girls dropped out, we were left with only 5 girls per team. The girls showed resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship to play out the day with no subs. Well done girls.

Year 7 Fitness Test Superstars

During Term 3, our Year 7 classes participated in their final fitness testing unit for the year. Many students produced results that compared favourably with current state norms across a range of fitness tests. Students should be proud of their effort and achievements, with several outstanding performances earning places on the boys’ and girls’ leader boards. Well done to the Year 7 cohort on the way they conducted themselves through this unit.

Wear It Purple Day 

MSC students embraced Wear It Purple Day by adding a splash of purple to their outfits and gathering at lunchtime for music, bubbles, nail and face painting. The day celebrated diversity, inclusion and the courage to be yourself, reflecting this year’s theme, Colours of Courage.
